Can't do anything with disabled alerts

Slickone_ 1,020 117 July 5, 2016 at 02:08 PM
Some of my alerts disabled themselves. First, why is that?

Second, I'm unable to re-enable them, or edit them.

Hi,
Did you spam any of your deal alert emails?

I'm not even sure what that means, but I know I'm pretty sure I haven't done it.

Hi,
It means if you set up your deal alerts to arrive by email and then spammed one or more it would disable that deal alert.

Still don't know how one could spam an alert or why they would.
It doesn't really matter. I haven't done it. I've never spammed anything. Are you able to fix the problem?

If your email bounces for any reason (aka invalid email, which is likely not the issue here), or you as a user have either unsubscribed, used our email management page, or moved our emails to any spam folders, or hit any "spam" buttons on your client or web browser, these get reported to us.

It is an industry best practice to stop sending email to people who spam our emails because that lowers our reputation, and theoretically the user is signalling to us that they no longer want to see those emails. Thus, we disable the alerts.

I will take a look at your account to verify this, but also see why you cannot reactivate them. What happens when you press the Resume button? Can you post some screenshots for me?

There's a "Re-enable Dealalert", which for some alerts gives:
"You may not use this notification type: Notification"
ie. for "omega j8006" alert.
But for others, it works.

FYI, I've never reported an alert, and have been getting my other alerts every day just fine.

We looked into your alerts, and you had some that expired in April (it used to be that deal alerts would have an expiration). If you reactivate them at this time, they will live forever (a change we made in May).

That being said, if you do not have site notifications enabled, then you wouldn't be allowed to pick that as a notification option for your alerts. I suggest disabling that in the alert settings, or re-enabling the site notifications in your preferences if you prefer that.

I'm not sure what site alerts is, but I don't see that as an option in any of the alerts.

Again, I was able to re-enable one alert that was greyed, but not able to re-enable a different one that was greyed. Are you saying the alerts that I can't re-enable are set to site alert, and the ones that let me re-enable them are not?

Go here, then look for the "Hide the notification when you get a Deal Alert." option, and make sure it is NOT checked. If it is, uncheck it, save your options, then re-enable your alerts.

That was it. Unchecking fixed it. Is that a bug? I don't see how they're related, and don't want to see the notifications, which is why I (I assume) had checked it.

Yes, there's a bug in the edit page for deal alerts that we're working on fixing; once the alert is fixed and enabled, you can check the option again to hide it.
