Normally they do. They usually do for one year after being first setup. And you can always extend it another 2 years with an AppleCare protection plan... Ps if you are buying with an .edu account Apple also has a discount on that plan too.

All Apple products have a 1 year warranty from the date of original purchase. Buying open box is no different than buying used, you will have an unknown amount of time left on the warranty.

I picked up an open box Macbook 12 and I loved the device and size. Got a pretty good deal for a 8GB / 512 for around $700 open box -- but it was open box for a reason.

I started having crazy issues with the laptop shutting down randomly on me. It had about 6 months left on the warranty so the Genius Bar sent it in for repair. When it came back, it was practically a brand new laptop because according to the repair sheet they replaced everything but the top cover / display.

WIthin 2 weeks, one of the keyboard keys went back and I needed to send it in again for repair, got it back and they replaced the keyboard. The Genius Bar was mentioning they hated repairing the 12" Macbook and it was super tricky that they almost always send it in.

My 2011 Macbook Pro 13 on the other hand has been a champ for nearly 5 years --- I don't think I ever brought it in for repair except for a dead power supply.

Definitely recommend the Extended Warranty for the Macbook 12 and have to say Apple support / Genius Bar provides A+ prompt service.

This isn't true, verified by calling Apple -- however, Apple employees multiple times told me different.: Another tip, wait until the last day of your 1 year Macbook warranty to buy AppleCare -- it will extend it 2 years from that particular day. I went this route, had no problem getting the warranty and then promptly flipped the machine on eBay.

Wow. Sorry to hear you have had so many problems with the 12. You got an awesome deal though, and I am surprised Apple didn't completely replace your computer after so many problems. Good call getting the extension.

Anyone else having this problem...

Click the link. Switch to another color. Price is $1299. Click on the original grey one and the price is still $1299 vs. $999.

Bug?

I kept running into this until I eventually figured out what was going on. There are two versions of it. The latest and the first generation. Both are available if you search but once you're on the product page of the first generation, if you click any option, it'll take you to the latest generation.

I believe the trick to wait till the last day used to be the case but they changed it some years back.

Storage is not on the low end, thats some of the fastest flash memory you can get in a laptop currently. CPU yeah, the Airs are a good bit more powerful and then the macbook pros. So dont get this macbook if you plan on running VM's and the like.

That said, I was able to get Apple to reset my warranty on my open box macbook air to my purchase date. YMMV though, no receipt was required since it was only a week. Sounded more like she did me a favor from the way she was talking.

No one got lucky, you can use the edu coupons on open box items now. The verbiage in the fine print changed recently in the last few months and they took out the open box restriction. I used an edu coupon myself with an open box macbook air.

I worked at Best Buy and sometimes you can talk to the manager to knock a little off the price for open box computers. It really depends on who you talk to but I'd suggest looking at a new one and then asking if they can give u a deal on an open box one
