Cell phone companies

My husband and I currently share 1gb and get a free 1 gb making it 2. We rarely go over this so don't need more. We're with Verizon and pay about 86 a month with hubby a discount through his work.
His iPhone 5s just stopped working so he needs a new phone... Something comparable to the iPhone. We don't mind paying outright for a new phone and don't want to spend more than 300.
My question is...
We'd like to leave Verizon and go cheaper without compromising quality but don't know who to go with. We live near Gainesville Fl.
Tia!

My mom lives in Palatka and has AT&T and gets good reception there and it's the sticks. I'd go with an unlocked phone so you're not tied to one carrier. I have simple mobile and with taxes and fees pay about $56 a month for 10gb. It uses t-mobile. As for a phone I'd check here. Hope this helps.

For those who use more data (like 3GB a month) but seldom make phone calls (less than 10 minutes a month), which phone companies are better choice?

Take a look at "Project Fi" by Google - they are offering a new service but limited to Android devices offered by Google (cost $200 unlocked). Monthly for talk/text is $20 and Data is $10/GB. If you don't use data, they refund the balance back to you every month!

T-Mobile is really the choice to get cheaper service as long as it works in your area. they have upgraded their network considerably and should work fine in Florida. I go to the tamper clearwater area every year and never have any issues. If you have a family their family plan is second to none.

Verizon is not only very expensive they are terrible to their employees. I see picket lines outside their office every year.

Page Plus Cellular, will be cheaper and it is Verizon coverage. Not similar, identical to Verizon.

Go to a T-Mobile store and ask to do a test drive. I think they still do this, where they will give you a T-Mobile device to use for 14 days so you an see the coverage in your house, where you travel, etc. T-Mobile is a great company and is very good price wise. PMme if you need any help or have questions regarding them.

Hi, I get my Verizon phone covered via work, but I moved my wife and kids off Verizon at the beginning of the year to EcoMobile, onto their Verizon network plans. This way you have the same coverage / reliability, but don't pay all the extra fees and taxes that Verizon hits you with.

Check out their Unlimited Plans [ecomobile.com]. When you sign up, make sure you request the Verizon network, since they also offer GSM network options.

Based on your needs, the $30/mo plan should cover you. It provides the first 1Gb of data at 4G-LTE speeds, and then additional unlimited data at 2G speeds. For $40/mo, they provide 3Gb of $G-LTE and then throttle back down to 2G.

You should be able to cut your monthly service to $60/mo, no taxes or fees. Good Luck.

PS, I previously used PagePlus that some others mentioned, I find EcoMobile has better pricing, at least in Jan they did.

Would also recommend T-Mobile if you get coverage.

Total Wireless is another option for VZW network.

Interesting, last time I checked (>3mos ago) Total Wireless only offered 3G service, and didn't support my family's phones, because they are all 4G phones w/ SIM cards. I just called Total and they confirmed that in the last month, they now support 4G-LTE devices and offer SIM cards, so the 3-line 12Gb of 4G-LTE for $85/mo plan is a win for me. Thanks for your post, it made me check on Total's latest offerings.
