Thread Details

Anyone have any experience with this airline? I have checked rates for the past few weeks and the price stays the same. Do they ever have sales? Looking to fly from Boston RT. WOW is cheaper, but makes you pay for bags, seats, and the air inside so that won't work.

I just booked with a stop over a few months ago.

9/29 from jfk to Iceland than 10/2 Iceland to Stockholm and on 10/12 from Oslo to Iceland hour layover to jfk for $385

Free bags and the free up to 7 day stopover makes it a no brainier for me.

Fly to Stockholm or Oslo with the stopover for a few days than once in Stockholm or Oslo fly elsewhere in Europe for 50-125 depending where you are going.

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. I go crazy with my vacations and make the most out of them and love to help.

Interesting. I priced a similar trip and it costs an extra $30 to go sweden and back. Do they ever offer sales? $385 is a great deal.

Hiking and outdoors stuff. My friends and I were going to use WoW next month because it will be $600 (without additional fees) to do a Friday-Sunday 9 day trip. That said, it does look like it will be +$90 to add a checked bag to get us through the week.

Iceland Air shows $997 in comparison for me. This is from BWI/IAD/DCA going to Reykjavik.

I don't suppose anyone knows a way to use British Avios to get to Iceland do they? I know you can use the OneWorld partnership, but their website is awful and I haven't had any luck with it.

IcelandAir is a fine airline for the price, nothing fancy, but they don't ding you for checked bags and seat selection. Some quick pointers from 2 RT flights with them:

1) In flight meals are NOT standard with Economy seats, so either buy something before going to the airport or be prepared to pay for snacks in the air. The heartiest thing they have in-flight is a baguette sandwich, so keep in mind. Bonus points: they do sell Skyr Icelandic yogurt which is a personal favorite

2) All our seats have had USB ports to power phones and smaller tablets. Each seat has an approx 7" touchscreen built into it and the in-flight selection is quite good

3) At all European connections, they have not announced the flight boarding at the gate. Instead, the gate sign changes to "please line up" or something similar and everyone does it. Not sure if this is normal MO for them, but since this happened all 6 times we boarded an Iceland Air flight in Europe, it is worth noting.

I also highly recommend Norwegian Air from Boston - they have several Boeing 787 Dreamliners in their trans-Atlantic fleet and are markedly more comfortable. Keep in mind they are closer to the WOW Airline model and will charge you for checked bags, etc, but their airfares can be shockingly good to/from Boston.

How soon would you book airfare for a trip on 11/24? Curious if prices will go down or if they will have a sale. Doing stockholm and iceland. 4 nights in both.

If it's under 400 buy it when you can. Won't get cheaper.
