Haven't worn Marmot before. How does their quality compare to like of Patagonia and Arc'teryx?

I've never worn Patagonia or Arc'teryx. But they're sold in the same stores for about the same price. I would say they're better than the recent North Face stuff, if that helps you any.

My Marmot softshell has been fantastic over 4 years. But the zipper would sometimes split on me this past year. It looked to be covered under warranty, and I sent it in recently for repair. But I haven't heard back from them yet. It's a pretty easy online form. You can elect a replacement if they don't want to repair it, or you can have them send it back if you're attached to the article of clothing. Or you can pre-approve $40 repairs if it's determined to not be under warranty. It seems they want to stand by their products, though.

I would say about the same quality as Patagonia. I like the cut & fit much more on my Marmot gear than I do on my Patagonia. Arc is way overpriced, and unless your going to summit Denali, unnecessary.

I would say the quality of marmot and patagonia are similar enough, but Patagonia is also one of the most ethical companies

They're kind of in the middle tier brand in my opinion - Arcteryx is known for producing some of the best shells on the market, Patagonia has one of the best wind jackets on the market for ultralight hiking, while Marmot has.... well, stuff that is sort of similar items at a lower pricepoint.

Their Zeus down jackets get good feedback, but other than that I don't hear much about their products.

I also had a marmot jacket zipper wear out on me after five or so years. My dry cleaner told me about the warranty and like you it took a while, but it finally arrived, repaired completely. Be patient! Winter is Coming

Same here. Love my marmot rain shell.
I also have marmot hiking pants that are great.

I think it depends on what type of items you're looking at.

I think for down jackets, Patagonia and Arc'teryx are superior to Marmot. But for rain shells, the Marmot Precip consistently gets high marks particularly for the price point. I also like the M Series softshells that Marmot makes.

For reference, I've owned the following:

Marmot: Zeus down jacket, Estes Hoody softshell
Patagonia: Down Sweater, Houdini, Capilene baselayers
Arc'teryx: Atom LT Hoody

I felt the Marmot Zeus down jacket was a fine product, but used lower quality fabrics and zippers than the comparable Patagonia/Arc'Teryx jackets. Down plumes were always making their way out of the Zeus' shell, while I can count on one hand how many I've seen come out of the Patagonia after owning both for about a year.

I have had two marmot jackets, similar to the ROM but without the hood. They are so comfortable that you don't feel them - kind of like wearing a very comfy sweater. Best jacket period. I keep recommending it to my friends and family.
