Awesome deal for the XL size. Camelcamelcamel says it's a near 3 year low.

I have the Super Brella and it's great. Was just in Lake Tahoe visiting relatives and commented that we needed one of these for out there. As luck would have it, I saw this post (although two weeks too late as I just got back from Nevada!) so I purchased one and will have it shipped to Tahoe for our trip next summer.

Thanks OP.

Some of the recent reviews on Amazon say that quality has changed for the worse substantially. Any recent experiences with this?

Bought mine the week before July 4th. Held up like a champ on an annoyingly windy beach. Quality is top notch.

I am kind of a beach umbrella connoisseur (I fry like bacon in the sun and I live 3 minutes from the beach), and have to agree with the newer reviews. The older Sportbrellas were amazing and built to last. These new ones are only similar in name. All of the major stress points on the umbrella were cheapened this last round of updates, so it is very prone to spines tearing off and seams ripping.

My current favorite beach umbrella is the Nautica from Sams Club. It is made well, good price (~$20), and holds up to the wind well. It has a sand anchor built in which works most of the time.

If it gets crazy windy, use a sandbag anchor to reinforce (Just grab a reusable shopping bag, will it with sand, and then attach it to the middle of the umbrella once up with a ratchet or zip strap and pull tight. This really anchors it and allows you to use it in pretty crazy wind).

If you have Sam's Club in your area look up item # 508256

http://m.samsclub.com/ip/sportbre...od19850672

They are priced at $39.42 in the Phoenix area. It's a better deal if you have to pay tax with Amazon like I do.

Any recommendations for anchors for these (either the one at Amazon or the one at Sam's Club) for use at the beach?

(edit: I see from the Amazon description that it includes some stakes. Are those suitable for sand?)
