Thanks OP, I was actually looking for a new fishing rod and this is a pretty solid deal. Also, for anyone into ice fishing, some of their ice fishing rods are on sale too. 50% off, making them only 14.99 which is really darn cheap for quality rods. I ended up with one of the Triumph X spinning rods and 2 ice rods for $90 shipped, no tax to me here in Minnesota.

Personal opinion here and others might tell you differently, but....

First off, I think most people will prefer spinning rods. They're more compatible with most of the reels you're likely to own/use/buy.

Second, unless you know you're going to be targeting monsters, a medium light rod will be ideal for most fish 10 pounds and under, and lets be honest, if you're casually fishing you probably aren't catching many 10 pound fish anyway.

Out of the options that are on sale, I think the TXS66MLF model is going to be the best casual all around panfish/walleye/bass/small pike rod. In fact, that's exactly what I just bought. I have a trip to the boundary waters (Minnesota / Canadian border) planned later this summer and wanted a new rod for walleyes, smallmouth bass, and small lake trout.

In rivers and lakes to catch bass, catfish, etc. "Normal" fish.

The only fishing poles I've used are the kind with the spool where you flip the metal thing out to toss it out and then flip it back over the spool to keep it from unraveling. Then when a fish bites, you reel it in with the handle. I think this is called a spinning pole.

If I order the rod above, I guess I need to buy a spinner/spool thing too?

That's a spinning reel. You want a spinning rod. Buy the model that I suggested in my previous post, it will work well for your all around needs.
