If you absolutely must have a GPU today, this is ok. But tomorrow's hdyro 1070's will run laps around this for the same price.

For the same price you say? ?? the MSI GTX 1070 Gaming is $440 the MSI Gaming X is $460 AND the MSI Seahawk 1070 (the liquid cooled one) is $520 so no, it wont be near 400 in quite some time and you can blame nvidivia for the stupid pricing of the FE cards because no AIBS card is hitting the 379msrp unless they are basically the blower style one such as the msi aero i think it's called.

How is it nvidia's fault? It is just pure logic supply and demand. Unless you're referring to the manufacturing isssues, which is nvidia's partner (forgot their name) but not them. Even AMD and all the advertised stellar supplies sold out rather quickly for the rx 480.

This seems like the better choice vs the water cooled fury x at same price today.

Did I say 1070? Silly me, I just read about the 1060 today so in approximately 12 days you'll be able to be 20% less effective for 30-50% less money. Or in other words, you can run laps right behind the GFX 980ti and still have money left over to upgrade your RAM.

You did indeed say 1070 ? and nvidia says the 1060 matches the 980 [not ti] and while it's fairly possible i would still wait for the benchmarks as it is the case with every new GPU release

I was referring to their price scheme this time around, placing the FE edition higher than the msrp when it has been the other way around all the time, I have the asus strix 1070 pre ordered through amazon and it should be arriving next thursday amazon says, it's 450 but my target is 1440p so that was the card that i wanted

The one in the description works. However, price is now $450

Price is now $450. It was a bad deal at $399 though, considering you can get a 1070 for the same price.

Even a 1070 OC (for more money) has worse performance, so not sure how you conclude this?

Nvidia always overcharges for cards. It's the main reason I was always an ATI/AMD fan.

Max OC to max OC the 1070 ties or beats the 980 Ti in most games. The gap will grow, as Nvidia improves 1070 performance through drivers, and sabotages 980 Ti performance through GameWorks and other means.

I haven't been paying much attention since I plan on waiting for Star Citizen before upgrading again. Unless there's a half off Vive deal for BF lol Big Grin. But this seems to show the 980Ti OC beats the 1070 OC: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgfe4QdhBbE

I have mostly stuck with AMD cause its cheaper, but looking at the performance for the game i currently play (Epic's Paragon) the new rx 480 gets like 70 fps at medium settings and the new gtx 1070 gets 70 fps at Epic settings. The 1060 is presumably at 980 levels which is high fps at slightly below epic settings. This is insane. https://www.epicgames.com/paragon/faq

I know that is a very weird example, probably because the RX 480 hasnt been maximized for Paragon, but even so looks like rx 480 is between gtx 970 and 980, whereas 1060 is suppose to exceed 980. I'd say price wise....both fit the bang for buck respectively but imo nvidia has a strongly edge over software
