So, we bought our toddler one of those 7" Fire tablets [amazon.com], and I've received some questions about how we use it from fellow parents. I thought I might as well post it here.

You can put Underground apps on other Android devices, and other posts have talked about this. I'm focused on kid-friendly apps for an Amazon device with the Underground store already installed. Some other apps won't run on the under-powered 7" tablet. You can see I really like the narrated books. I have run almost all of the apps listed below, and while I believe all should work, some still occasionally crash due to it's low-memory specs:

Toddler-and-up friendly apps & narrated story books
And there are a few worth mentioning For older kids (or parents)
The full list of "actually free" kids apps is here [amazon.com] and these are all (3,000+) Amazon Underground apps [amazon.com] currently available.

We do also use the tablet for video, including Netflix [amazon.com] and Plex [amazon.com]. I have synced videos to it but I won't go into the details of that here.
Don't have Amazon Prime? Students can get a free 6-Month Amazon Prime trial with free 2-day shipping, unlimited music, unlimited video streaming & more. If you're not a student, there's also a free 1-Month Amazon Prime trial available.

Ppl should know that you have to a) be logged into your amazon store account and b) have the Underground app's data tracking for any of these "totally free" apps to work. I.e., turning on data tracking alone (which is supposed to pay the developer by logging the number of minutes the app is used) by itself doesn't cut it.
