"Slickdeals' Best Fire Deals" suddenly emailing me

Royal2000H 3,496 349 July 7, 2016 at 06:35 PM
I'm suddenly getting emails with "🔥🔥🔥 Slickdeals' Best Fire Deals:" in the subject today. I've gotten 3 in the last 1.5 hours. These are for things I don't really care about and don't have a Deal Alert set up for.

Each email says:
"Not interested? Click here to manage your alerts or create a new one."

I click on it and then get a page on Slickdeals that says:
"Alert with this ID not found, or no permission: xxxxxxxxxx" with some number instead of the x's.

Please make it stop.

We started a test to create a "best deals" deal alert for some of our extremely inactive users - you may have been inadvertently bucketed into this test. It was only supposed to reach out to users who we haven't seen logged in over a year.

I was able to look up that deal alert id, and you have two accounts, with a particularly old userid (within the first 50k to have ever signed up!!) but thats why you got those emails, and also why you didnt have permission to edit them (because you're logged in with a different account than the one that actually received the email). I'll pm you the details.

I'm not sure why you would suggest that, but these are our own internal emails for the best deals posted on Slickdeals (literally only 1-2 a day) - you'll see they've got lots of thumbs up. They were meant for users who havent visited the site in a while, but unfortunately you guys must've created accounts and forgot about them for years.

That being said, it is actually against our terms of service to have multiple accounts, but I can disable those old accounts for you. Smilie Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused, but I guess this'll help see how many people have duplicate accounts haha.

I'd like to thank bryantq for his quick response in the matter. tonie -- why the offtopic concern? This matter is unrelated..

So if I don't log in for a year that suddenly means you get to start spamming me? I got four of these in just one day for stupid shit that I don't want and never expressed any interest in whatsoever. Not cool! Respect your users.

Sorry that it inconvenienced you, but we do offer easy unsubscribe options. It just so happened that yesterday we had a lot of super highly rated deals. Normally this alert would only send one or two a day.

did you disable my account like we've discussed because I'm still getting these. It's getting ridiculous.

The reasong he would suggest that MIGHT BE because you now completely disregard users' desires!

Please, as someone already suggested, provide the link to unsubscribe from EVERYTHING except deal alerts created by each invidual user, thank you....

Please answer "YES" or "NO."

Are you going to provide members with the requested link to unsubscribe from your CRAPMAIL?
