Fujitsu AAA NiMH batteries are regularly available for less than this (w/free shipping) from reputable USA ebay sellers.

I'm not sure how I feel about the batteries being shrink wrapped but not in retail packaging. Is this because sellers buy in bulk then shrink wrap them?

I have two thoughts on eBay batteries:
1) In the case of Fujitsu's since there's no known counterfeits, YET, they're "parallel/grey market" imports.

2) In the case of eneloops they could be either:
A. If sold as "Made in Japan" "grey market", or more likely Chinese knockoffs from less than scrupulous dealers.
B. If no country of origin is specified, then are highly likely Chinese counterfeit, OR Made in China by Panasonic, for certain Asian and the Australian markets, and are NOT intended for the USA market.

The Fujitsu batteries are shrink wrapped into 4-packs. My guess is that this is done at the production factory, as bulk shipping loose batteries sounds like a recipe for a shipping disaster.

Blister packages can add psychological comfort, but counterfeit eneloops also come in blister packs.

Also note in the photo of this Newegg offer that the batteries are simply shrink wrapped too, just into a french fry style box. Reading the reviews, one buyer complained that they received the batteries loose without the french fry box. Maybe their seller wasn't Newegg, don't know, but if I received a loose batch of batteries, I wouldn't be too concerned about whether they were counterfeit or genuine because, regardless, I'd be sending them right back.
