Disable HP Color Laserjet CP1518ni supply status

Thrifteh 9,411 August 8, 2008 at 07:26 AM
Please help, I know I read a thread on this, but I have no idea where it is or what the appropriate keywords would be for search. I have searched since last night and have come up empty handed any assistance is greatly appreciated!

My HP CP1518ni won't print at all because the machine settings say my magenta cartridge is *out of toner*. I would like to turn off my defaults and run the cartridge until I can visibly see the quality is compromised (I do this with my Dell monochrome no problem).

I know there is a lot of life left in these cartridges as the last page I printed was fairly saturated with color and it printed perfectly.

Thanks again!

Is the printer giving you this problem or is Windows? If Windows, you can probably just uninstall HP's software and just leave the printer driver.

No the printer itself is indicating *out of toner* on the magenta.

if it's the printer itself giving you this error, I don't know if there's a way to fool it. Your best bet is to just take the cart out, shake it and try again.

On the controll panel under options there should be a setting to override the page counter.

Lurking in on this thread ... was thinking of buying the CP1518ni just this afternoon, but no one could answer my question. I think it has been answered here.

SO .... this printer will not function unless it believes that ALL toner cartridges are full (or close)?

I'm looking to just print mostly B&W with color occasionally, but I don't want to have to purchase all three color carts just to have them sit in there so the machine can think they're full, when the majority of the time I will not be using them.

Are there any decent color laser printers out there that can function fine with just the black cartridge in it?

Thanks!

There is a setting int he printer menu to over ride the page counter for each toner. Then you can keep printing until it runs out.

I use an HP2840 Color Laser (this is a somewhat pricey AIO) at work and if any of the color toners carts run out during a job it will continue in grayscale, however, once that job is done it will not print new jobs as the replace toner message basically shuts down the machine.
