Was doing a routine check on 970 prices compared to Rx 480 prices and noticed that the 970 is as cheap as the 480 is supposed to be, yet also faster and with a beefier cooler.
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X OC EDITION [newegg.com]
$249.99 - $20 Rebate [newegg.com] = $229.99 AR + Free shipping.
The MIR is limited to one per household and is valid from 7/01/2016 to 7/31/2016.

You can view benchmarks of a stock 970 vs a RX480 8GB [anandtech.com], so this 970 would be a fair bit faster.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

dont forget it wont possibly kill your pcie lane and it overclocks much much better(15-20% over stock clocks ~1450-1500mhz) than the rx480(5-10% over stock clocks ~1350-1400mhz). decent deal.

No longer true.
Latest AMD drivers fixed the power overdraw on the pci-e lane, and also boosted its performance by 5%. The 480 will pull ahead over time with driver updates, whereas the 970 is tapped out. Just letting everyone know.

source link? my understanding was that the safe pcie power draw max was 75w and 6-pin was 75w. seems like 970 with 8-pin as well hardware wise is going to be more stable. I'm tempted to wait for a 480 with an added 8-pin connector.

Not where you saw gtx 980 killer, but i've only seen that it kills the 970 and barely hits the performance of a 980.

4GB is a deal killer. Need at least 6GB like GTX 1060 or 8GB RX480

Right from the horse's mouth. http://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news...e-gtx-1060

And to be a killer in my opinion does not have to best performance. It can also best performance/price ratio in my books.

Either way it's great options for people looking at mid level graphics this generation.

I am not exactly sure which card I want yet. Either going to be reference 4gb RX 480 (8gb unlockable) or 6gb GTX 1060, if nvidia claims hold true to it performing on par with a 980.

Can't trust everything you read buddy, need to have real life numbers to back it up.

Here's some numbers to back up my statement.

https://compubench.com/device.jsp...X+1060+6GB

~970 and rx480 level but does not beat the 980.

Yep, right from the horse's mouth...

" the GTX 1060 delivers GTX 980-level performance and twice the energy efficiency in VR."

Delivers 980 level performance in VR not in standard games.

You don't have to be that defensive. it feels like you are in love with and or gtx 970 or have something against gtx 1060. Gtx 980 performance level at 250$ is perfect. GTX 980 still goes for much more and $250 range is what GTX 970 just started hitting more or less often. And since GTX 1060 is much better than GTX 970 for the same price - the choice is obvious.

I hope we will see some $250 cards at least on the first day and then again two weeks later after the restock.

More like $300 still haven't seen a 1080 or 1070 hit msrp yet.

Unless you need a new card TODAY it seems like theres no reason to get this over waiting for a 1060, better performance with better efficiency as well.
