Soft white - has a yellow tint. Suggested to be softer on the eyes
Daylight white - pure white light. Looks brighter but some argue are harsher on the eyes.

Soft white is more for "mood" lighting Daylight is better to really see things with, has a more bright, unfiltered light.

It is the "color" of the lights ...or more techniclaly the color temperature

soft white is warmer ...yellowish

daylight is cooler ...more like bright white

depends on your preference what you pick

Preference, but also a preference based on where you live and what you're accustom to. Read a survey/study that showed (IIRC) typically those on the east coast prefer the soft white, which is similar to traditional incandescent bulbs (yellowish). Midwest/west tend to prefer the daylight bulbs, which is whiter and more similar to sunlight.
