spoken like someone who hardly drives out of their own town. Waze is an awesome add on, but you are clueless if you think it is a replacement for a quality detector...
I commute on a highway where the cops have lots of places where they hide and shoot you from behind. You'll never see them except in the rearview mirror. They hardly ever show up on Waze which I use religiously. My radar detector picks them up every time before I pass them.
LOL.

I love how these radar threads goes.

How about if you are car #1 to that area and driving above the speed limit, even 1 mph. How do you get alerted that there may be a revenue generating officer there?

Waze has made these obsolete unless you live in a small town or in the country. Even then you just need something cheap to get K and KA bands.

Wow lots of downvotes. These must be the same people thinking they have time to slow down when they get hit with a Laser warning...By the time you have been warned the officer has already read your speed.

Bottom line: the only way you are safe from a laser or air speed traps is by CB radio, app like Waze, knowledge of where your local cops sit, or trunking/digital/800.MHz police scanner. Like I said if you live in the country or rural areas then a cheap detector that picks up KA and K bands is a great tool.

I've had this radar detector for a couple years and it's great. The GPS lockout is good as its not just chirping all day until you unplug and forget to plug back in.

Yeah...but have give that a big, fat NO. I use Waze all the time and while LEOs are generally reported aggressively on the interstate, I never see them reported on smaller highways or side streets (and I mean NEVER)...and that includes LEOs set up in areas that I know for a fact are speed traps/cash generation locations. How does Waze protect in those situations?

Nope...Waze plus a good quality radar detector like this one compliment each other quite nicely.

lol, you must not speed much if you believe Waze replaces radar detectors.. they are good to use together but if I had to pick one I'd still choose my V1 over Waze any day. And I regularly drive 30mph+ over the PSL

Going to have to agree. Can't rely on waze. Also the alert for cops is real late in comparison to a good radar detector.

FYI with newer cars using radar based adaptive cruise control the number of false alerts are going to keep going up. They mostly use K band which overlaps with radar guns.

I still use a 9500ix with TSP turned on. Helps minimize the number of false alerts. It's still useful as Waze isn't going to help you as much in rural areas.

Try a more modern radar detector. 9500ix is pretty old. bought it last year without researching much. Sold it this year and bought LRD950 for cheap. A lot less false alerts even with K band/TSR filter off. This Max should have better filtering than 9500ix, though performance and build quality are questionable, especially for MSRP
