This is a great deal on a full-fledged receiver with HDMI 2.0a and 4K video upscaling with HDCP 2.2 support.

I can't speak to the onkyo nr74, but I regretted getting my nr709 inspite of all the reliability issues I had read about onkyo. It was an awesome receiver when it was working, however within 2 years it had failed twice. The first time was under warranty, which onkyo was good about honoring. The second time (same hdmi sounds issue), was outside of warranty, leaving me with an expensive regret

I just replaced my Yamaha receiver that I purchased back in 1999. My wife was a stay-at-home mother while our kids were growing up and had it on constantly during the day and then hours at night while we watched TV or movies. If Yamaha still makes them the way they used to they are certainly built to last.

Second on expensive regret re: Onkyo. I had issues with audio using HDMI, which seems very common, but my unit isn't covered by the repair program they've issued for other receivers with the same issue. Instead, they want me to bring it to a service center 5-6 hours away, which will likely charge me more than I'm willing to pay.

I'll likely just buy a new receiver and avoid Onkyo in the future.

I bought this on the last deal in May for $480. This is a smoking hot price on an excellent receiver.

Really good price for this receiver, and if it's a Yamaha it should last a long time.

I am not expert. I think Yamaha V779 model doesn't have Dolby Atmos and DTS:X which are latest tech. But Onkyo NR747 does have + THX. These features are available in latest model Yamaha V781.

That's true. I was thinking of by passing this deal because it doesn't have atmos or dts-x. The more I thought about it though, I realized it wouldn't benefit me much with my 5.1 setup. The only feature of those I could see using would be the enhanced dialog for dts-x but I know I'd probably never configure that anyway. Everything else about this reciever is great and up to date.

I just cancelled "RX-V679BL" from Amazon and switched to this one.

RX-V679BL: $359.95 (No Tax+Free Shipping)
RX-V779BL: $409.00+$36.81 Tax+Free Shipping= $445.81

The difference is $85.86

Was it worth to pay extra $85.86 for V779?OMG

I had an Onkyo that died after 4 years of use. Pulled the trigger on this. Best price seen on this.
