Not sure why the TD either. After three days of staring at this deal on Amazon, I finally bit. I love the price of the entry level model at $1,000.00 but double the ram, double the HD size and PCIE made me jump on this deal. Really excited to see how this looks, my wife is a photographer and is moving from an older i5, 1080p XPS 15 to this. I think it'll be a nice switch, with way more power and a better, if dimmer, screen. It was down to this, the Samsung notebook 9 pro and the XPS 15.

I think this tablet really would have sold like hotcakes if they would have made it more like the yoga so you at least had the option of using it in a laptop configuration. So basically if it were a laptop with a tablet option. That was really my only reservation about getting it: being anchored to a desk, but I think we can work around it. I love all the ports, and good luck getting a reasonably-priced quad-core in another machine with this kind of build quality and screen quality!

Indeed. I jumped at the same 16GB-512GB model for 1299, and are really happy I pulled the trigger. It exactly meets my requirement as tasks for photography and everyday use.
Beat all other 2-in-1 tablets, ultrabooks in performance. Top build quality.

I have also made the purchase, arriving on Friday. Granted, it is a bit heavier than normal 12" tablets, but when you think of the configuration it has, that weight is justified. You basically have the processing power of a 15" Quad Core Laptop in a 12" Tablet.
Also, all the ports are in the tablet, nothing in the keyboatd at all. It is just a BT Keyboard.

Soldered RAM, so you are stuck with 8GB, and a 'normal' m.2 SSD drive with the 8GB/256GB instead of the faster PCIe connection on the 16GB/512GB model. Whether that is worth $300 is questionable, but for some folks, worthwhile.

What I think is that the price difference is very much justifiable but whether you should go for it or not depends upon the purposes for which you are buying it. If you wanna use it for day to day activities like Multimedia, Streaming, some audio and and video editing, then probably the $1000 version is suited for you.

But if you really need it for running demanding applications, Video encoding, some complex tasks like encryption or compression related tasks, and want the best possible performance, then go for the 16GB Ram/ 512GB SSD version.

The PCIe SSD offers almost thrice the performance of a normal SATA III SSD which is very helpful if you are working with very large set of filters, encryption or compression of files etc.

Could also be because this same model was $1200 on MS Store a few months back.

Yes. From their website:
We listened to feedback from professionals on the value of work flow continuity and reliable cable and card connectivity. Dual output on two 4K monitors allows you to build a desktop-like work environment.
