I didn't see anything post on the new drive, and I'm going to consolidate all the drives I've been hunting in this thread.

I'm going to explain how I got 14TB worth of external drives for $135 by Pricematching with Office Depot as opposed to doing the Walmart Ghost Hunt. But First, I'll list the drives and information. Brickseek is NOT needed for this, but I included this for those of you still hunting the Walmarts. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.

New Drive
Walmart along with the previous deals has the Western Digital My Book 3TB

WD Model: WDBFJK0030HBK-NESN
Walmart Stock Number: 29016526
Office Depot Stock Number: 220097
http://brickseek.com/walmart-inve...u=29016526

Walmart Prices $25-$54 depending on store.

Previous drives
2TB My Cloud Personal Cloud Storage
WD Model: WDBCTL0020HWT-NESN
Walmart Stock Number: 551981739
Office Depot Stock Number: 202385
http://brickseek.com/walmart-inve...u=30579531

Walmart Prices $35

*This item is also on clearance at Office Depot In-store at the locations I've checked, making this easier to price match

Toshiba Canvio Desk 3TB External Hard Drive

Toshiba Model Number: HDWC130XK3J1
Walmart Stock Number: 21886434
Office Depot Stock Number: 857122
http://brickseek.com/walmart-inve...u=21886434

Walmart Prices $35

*This item is also on clearance at Office Depot In-store at the locations I've checked, making this easier to price match

Western Digital My Passport for Mac 1TB External Hard Drive
WD Model: WDBJBS0010BSLsn**
Walmart Stock Number: 554024871
Office Depot Stock Number: 806612*
http://brickseek.com/walmart-inve...u=44786205

Walmart Prices $17+ depending on location

* I have not confirmed this stock number personally.
** I have not successfully priced matched this as it is no longer posted in-stock locally at Walmart for this price. Office depot also does not list this exact model on their website. I have seen this device listed in store, but it may be another model.

What did I do?

This is how I got this to happen at two different Office Depot/Max locations.

The Walmart Prices above are in store prices, not the online prices. It's important to understand the difference and express that in any complications, and you're matching a local retailer. In store prices can be verified with the following instructions.

Via the Desktop Site:
  1. Click the 'My Local Store' link at the top of the page
  2. Search for your item via the 'Search Our Shelves' box
  3. Search using either the model number, or Walmart stock number

The result should look this: http://www.walmart.com/store/1692...=551981739

This is important as this is how the associate will verify the price. The best practice in store is to search by the manufacturer's model number, as that verifies they're the same.

Via the app:
  1. Search for the item using the model number, stock number or description
  2. Tap "At Your Store" at the top of the search results
  3. Change store at the bottom as needed
Alternate App Method:
  1. Search for the item normally
  2. Tap on the appropriate result
  3. Scroll down to Store availability (this shows your current store price)
  4. Tap more stores

Use Brickseek if you're having trouble finding a local store with the reduced price, but do not use Brickseek in store, it's more accurate than Walmart is. You want to find a store that thinks it's in stock, and it's pretty common in the areas I've checked.

Office Depot's Price Match Guarantee is subject to the Manager On Duty's interpretation of the policy. I do not pressure the staff under any circumstances and I'm just as helpful as I can to them as far as fulfilling what I need. Some staff may require that they find it on their work stations and print out the price.

In some cases they may price match only one item/unit. I've delt with 3 staff members on this. I have another local store I have not tried, this is my experience with 4 events, 3 staff members, across 2 stores.

When I walk in, I ask them if they can look into a price match. Up front I tell them the price match is extreme. I do not discuss the stock of the item at Walmar, except that it's listed in stock online via their website and app. Be versed in navigating their web site, it helps, as I've assisted them. Some savvy staff will be able to do this more quickly and easily with the walmart stock number of the item you're price matching, have it handy, it can be found in the item pages, or write it down.

In many cases, I'm sure Walmart doesn't have the stock in store (DO NOT TELL THEM THIS), however, I don't like Walmart, and I don't want to go to Walmart if I can help it (feel free to express this). Be friendly with the staff. One location has been extremely helpful. I explain to them even how I find the Walmart deals using the Walmart App on my phone. I didn't buy one of the drives I could to let the one of the managers take advantage of the deal. I also fill out their survey's when I get home. This relationship can be super helpful for future price matching.

I tell them above all, as it's such an extreme discount, I wouldn't be shocked to be denied, and while I'd like to get X amount, if I can get only one, I'm more than happy and satisfied.

The truth of the matter, is I'd rather buy from these guys than Walmart, and I genuinely express that. The staff is completely understanding, including both the managers I've spoken with directly.

If you're told no, do not pressure the staff member. If they have trouble verifying anything, offer to help. Keep in mind you can come back later to check with different staff or attempt other price matches, don't give yourself a bad rep in the store.

Know how to look up the items on your phone and the website via Walmart. Have their stock number ready. Let them know you did some homework, but don't give away too much. Express as much gratitude as you can and this will work at some store or another.

In the End I purchased:
  • 1X 2TB WD My Cloud ($35)
  • 2X Toshibia Canvio Desk ($25)
  • 2X WD My book 3TB ($25)

TIPS:
  • Make sure you distinguish the online vs in store price to the staff member
  • Know how to look up the in store price
  • The items can be looked up on walmart using both the model number and Walmart Stock Number
  • Office Depot appears to run through a corporate VPN, by default Walmart shows local stores by whatever zip code that's in (some military trail drive), make sure they change it to get local stores
  • Before going in store, be prepared. Check which office depot stores have stock via their website (it's accurate as hell!) and know how to find the in store price before you walk in the door

Happy Hunting!

Use the 'My Local Store" link at the top the desktop website, then use the 'search our shelves' search box. In the App, use 'in my store' in the search results. Change store as needed. Brickseek can help, as their pricing is usually up to date showing you which local stores apply. I added tips to address this.

The online price will not match the in store price.

Hello @ magguss, I've read your post a couple times however, I think you're missing a key step... I'm not sure what the Office Depot staff/manager is basing their price match on if they're not using brickseek? For example, the 3TB WD drive is clearance at walmart brickseek for $25 but OOS.... fine. The walmart website is quoting a price of $109. So if I go to Office depot, how will they be doing the price match if there's no "flyer" or and website is the same price they're quoting?!?!?
Would appreciate if you could elaborate on this matter.
Thanks

Thanks for your post, but I don't understand how to do this price match. When you look up the items on Walmart's website they are at full price, not the clearance price that you see on Brickseek. So how do they match the brickseek price, especially when they're out of stock everywhere, and only available for online order for full price with pickup at store at a future date? Thanks.

This is why it is up to the manager's interpretation. I had tried this pricematch at Best Buy and was unsuccessful due to the sheer amount.

My Office Dept were great when price matching a camera deal for me a few weeks ago, even with a $120 price difference.

Definitely going to go back and grab a 3TB from there.

Office Depot has definitely been more amicable about price matching than the other stores I've gone to. They also seem to keep these pretty decently stocked.

It's really going to boil down to your store's manager on duty. In my case, one was really great and let me pricematch 2 WD (which is beyond their policy), and one Toshiba. The other only allowed me one pricematch of the Toshiba (this was before I knew the WD was reduced at Walmart). The Toshiba and My Cloud drives will be much easier as they're also being cleared out at Office Depot, so it's not as much of a risk.

Thanks for your clarification. Choosing My Local Store on the desktop website does indeed show several left in stock even though Brickseek shows out of stock (which I'm sure is correct), so this might work. However, how do you choose My Local Store on the Walmart website when using a phone (I see the Savings Showcase and Pick it up TODAY options)? The My Local Store option is not available on the home page, is it somewhere else? Or is it absolutely necessary to use the Walmart app (I'd rather not install it if possible)? Thanks.
