Seems like a bad deal. Moto g4 plus for 100 less is a way better option.

$350/$400 For a phone with a Snapdragon 652 is laughable.

At that price point, I would just pay the extra $50 to get the ZTE Axon 7 or OnePlus 3 or something else...

how would you know it's a way better option when the idol isn't even out yet to compare it to? the build quality on the Moto g series is a joke. great phones but they feel like a toy in the hand. the idol has a much more flagship look and feel. imo, $350 is a great price for everything you are getting.

there's much more to phones than a processor, however I do remember reading somewhere that a 652 is comparable to last year's snapdragon 800 series processors. this phone actually feels, looks, and acts like a flagship. I'm still using a $180 idol 3 from last may as my daily driver. it doesn't have the best specs but it sure does blow away every other so called under $300 budget flagship killer made from then to now in terms of look and appeal.

How? This has better screen, build, speakers and the sd 652 is a lot better than that crappy sd 617 processor. Isnt the g4 plus $299?

My idol 3 broke just after warranty ended. Wouldn't charge unless it was off and even then it took almost 24 hours to charge. Will not buy an Alcatel again.

that's nuts, I didn't know these phones were set to spontaneously brake right after the warranty ends. thanks goodness mines is still fine...

$100 less if you get the $50 off price or factor in the gift card. Better in that it has 1GB more ram, 64GB storage, and a better ROM scene if that means anything to you.

You say the processor is worse, but this phone also has a 1440p screen which is going to require that extra horse power anyway, so it's going to even out. Plus, I've had both 1440p and 1080p at 5.5, and you can't even tell the difference. It's only good for VR, and if that's important to you, why are you buying a phone with a midrange SoC anyway?

This phone DOES have better parts, but so does the G4 Plus. One happens to be $100 less than the other, which is the deciding factor for me. Like someone else said, you might as well pay $50 more for the ZTE or OnePlus, this is super midrange and a non-midrange price.

Also, I had a Idol 3 with the recent Cricket deal. That thing was NOT premium quality build. It was better than the Moto G, but don't kid yourself, that thing felt cheap. I actually broke mine after dropping it too funnily enough, but that was more on me than the quality of the phone probably.

I'll wait for reviews, specs sometimes don't mean anything. 4 android phones can have the same 820 chip and 4gb of ram each, while all scoring different numbers in benches and some will run smoother than others in real world usage.

This review definitely has me watering at the mouth:

I was planning on keeping my Idol 3 for another year but I am not sure I have the willpower to hold off on taking advantage of the $350 pre-order price.

it's similar to the 810/808 in performance.

well yeah they have to optimize the software. that's why the one plus 3 with 6gb of ram is a joke.
