Dumb question for an experienced golfer, but here it goes - can this be used as a sand wedge? If yes, what degree do you recommend? Thank you in advance.

Typically a 56 degree would be a sand wedge. The real key is the bounce. In the questions a response says the bounce is 14. If that is correct, the 56 is good to go.

I have a sand wedge that is 54. Got the 60 for fun. Probably also good for sand as well. Never used a 60 before

the 56? would probably be your best bet. sand wedges are usually 55? I believe.

Besides cheaper price, is there a big difference between this model and the 588??

I love Cleveland wedges. If I hadn't gotten Scratch (RIP) wedges on a whim, I'd swap them to get these.

Typical SW loft is 56*. That being said I would have you check and see what your Pitching Wedge loft is. Most people go 4-5* between wedges. For me, my pitching wedge is 48*, gap wedge is 52* and sand wedge is 56*. Hope this helps!

What everyone else said is correct. Pay attention to the bounce of the club. My SW is a 56 but I often use my 60 out of the sand as well especially on really short distance shots.

Sand "type" can determine the bounce you are needing also. Good fluffy sand you may want more bounce, where hard packed sand you may want a less bounce. What some do is have a sw around 55-57* w/10*+ bounce for the good fluffy stuff and maybe a 59-61* lob wedge (LW) with 6-10* of bounce for that hard stuff.

Of course the type of iron swinger you are plays into it also. I'm a picker, if I make a large divot it's a bad thing for me. So less bounce seems to better for me on grass wedge shots. If you take a good divot and it doesn't affect your ball flight/distance you may be able to play more bounce on grass wedge shots

I've always thought:
gap 52
sand 56
lob 60

with that said I have a 58 sand wedge from the 1970s that is still my go to when on the "beach."

I would want all three in my bag and drop a low iron.
