Since this is unlocked, this should work with the Tmobile bring your own tablet free plan and just need to buy any SIM card from Tmobile and activate it?

Guess this is not as good as the recent tmobile LG G Pad X 8.0 deal.

I don't think its actually that old. I think its a newer more "budget" version of their older g tab 8.3...

Slower CPU, less ram, etc.

Kinda like Samsungs "new" galaxy J phones

How's this compare to my newly acquired Samsung Galaxy s2 9.7 tablet?

You probably paid double or triple for your S2 9.7.
This is 1/3 of the cost and it has a 4G.
Not a bad tablet for $100. Processor is a bit weak and would be nicer if it had 2GB of Ram, but for $100 8inch 4G LG tablet - not bad.

If you are looking for an LTE tab check the prior thread for Memo Pad LTEs B&M at Walmart for $40. I looked into it last week, two weeks after SD posting, and a local Wallyworld had two via Brickseek. One is already unlocked and on the T Mob 200mb for life plan (took some work and phone calls, but that is the challenge isn't it).

Those old in-store threads tend to get ignored after a while.

I bought exactly this one for $107 when ebay offered $15 off coupons last month. For $99, new 4G, 8". 5.0 LP tablets are nothing to complain about. But slower CPU and 1GB ram ask you for some patience when you expect the same speed as your smartphones. Still, the bigger screen helps me relieve eye strains I get from smaller smartphone displays.

I don't have one of these but I've had a LG G Pad 8.3 GPE for about 3 years. This is a bit more budget in terms of processor and ram but I'll say one thing - I love this form factor.

8 inch 16:9 is perfect for media in Landscape, and great for reading/browsing in Portrait.
It's the sweet spot between too small (for either P/L) 7" 16:9, and too big (to hold) 10" 4:3. And in my opinion against the iPad mini 8" 4:3 it's only slightly bested in P, but crushes in L.

Best size and shape, I'm sure many Galaxy Tab users would agree
