Don't buy a cheapo 4k tv...pixels ain't everything. Factors like color accuracy and saturation, black levels and contrast, refresh rate, response time and input lag (ESPECIALLY if you're using it for gaming), and many other considerations come into play when assessing a panel. I personally would rather have a high quality 1080p display than a middle-lower grade 4k panel. Besides that, 4k content is still relatively rare and/or expensive, and even if you have plenty of content, unless you have excellent vision AND are sitting fairly close, there's not much benefit in it.

* However If you do have a nice 4k panel and enough content, good vision, and your seating area is close enough you can actually resolve the additional pixels...4k can be absolutely stunning!

That said...no, Insignia doesn't offer the jaw dropping picture quality of an LG OLED or a premium Sony panel, however from what I've seen they are quite good for the money. At $250 for a 50" I think it's a great value.

* I'm not sure if they are still around, but folks buying in store may wanna check and see if their local post office still has new mover packets with 10% off coupons inside, which I believe work (or used to work) on non premium brand tvs like Insignia. I know they stopped releasing new mover coupons, but many of the coupons were good for months, and some post offices may still have some sittin' around that may still be valid Smilie

I have a $100 bestbuy gift card from last Christmas. I'd prefer to use it on a ps4 deal but been stuck playing my Xbox one on a 22 inch monitor and 32" tv. This would be a nice upgrade. How does these compare to the cheapy 40 inch 4K tvs in same price range at Walmart

This one is better .. Refresh rate of 120 would have been sweeter but this is ok.

I'm also curious if anyone has any opinions on how this compares to the Toshiba at this same price (deal appears to still be good) http://slickdeals.net/f/8911887-49-toshiba-49l420u-1080p-led-hdtv-249-99-free-shipping-free-store-pickup-best-buy

There is a review comparing this to such a Toshiba, not sure if its the same model but Insiginia edged it out by like 1%.

Can confirm. Have a 48" insignia downstairs and the actors' faces are completely discernible. Picture is in color and everything.

Though the image quality of the 43" vizio upstairs does happen to blow the socks of the insignia.
