I have this and it does what it is meant to do. Software works flawlessly. I have duplicated multiple hard drives when updating them to SSD.

Good deal except for two things IMO.

rebates suck and you have to pay for shipping if you don't have prime which kind of negates the savings.

I have the USB 2.0 version of this cable and can attest to its reliability. I also utilized Apricorn's imaging software to "ghost" or "image" the existing drive onto the new SSD drives. I've imaged SSD drives to install onto laptops and most recently, one for a Dell mini tower I5 desktop. No problems with the imaging or installation.

Recently, a friend was complaining about his wife's slow laptop and how he tried various options to clean it up. I suggested this cable and an SSD drive. He ordered both - imaged and installed the new drive. Said that it made a world of difference for his wife's laptop as far as performance is concerned.

Not to TC, but Amazon sells one made by StarTech for $9.99 with free shipping and no Prime needed. There are free softwares available to clone the HD or SSD. Therefore, the deal posted, which requires a rebate is way inferior to the StarTech (which also happens to be #1 best seller too).

I use Macrium Reflect as a scheduled OS backup program, and also use it to replace OS drives... Works great for both... fast and free... I just use a SATA dock I have, but I have also considered using the left-over connectors from one of the external drives I've gutted...

While this is nice that it comes with software, I recommend using Macrium Reflect anyway. It's free, simple, and can perform several different cloning and backup tasks. It wouldn't just be a one-time use program. If I were in the market for this kind of hardware, I would probably get the option without software or rebate...

You would likely have to first take the PS4 HDD out and make an image of the Drive onto a PC using an adapter like this. Then you would plug the new drive into the adapter and use the image on the PC to clone onto the new drive.

I don't know that there is any way to clone a PS4 drive while it is still inside the console.

so does using something like this help from having to buy a new windows license when swapping out HD. I need to swap out my HD but I don't have the original windows install files or whatever it is needed to install Windows on the new drive

Minitool Partition Wizard is excellent for this task.

It is bootable and does not require an install within Windows so you end up with a pristine clone.

https://www.partitionwizard.com/p...le-cd.html

You load it on a USB flash drive using Rufus [akeo.ie].

Boot from the flash drive and clone drives, create images, resize partitions, etc...
