I think we've all had their "lifetime" license and been screwed. You've been warned.

Not this again. Let's wait for the PlayOn shills come on and say they got their money's worth.

They offer a lifetime for the piece that was offered. Then they rewrote the application and then offered a reduced upgrade to the lifetime with the new features.

I've bought 2 lifetime passes and will say that there product is a lot better now than it was several years ago.

If you have a use for it to record streamable shows without commercials to watch offline, I'd recommend it!

At the end of that Reddit post it says:

EDIT: Problem resolved - this can probably chalked up to a "dumb end user" issue. I was running the PlayOn Settings program, starting and stopping the server to no avail. With the help of Support, I found there is a separate actual PlayOn program. Running that program and logging into my account from within the program, restored all my original accessibility.

I can't speak to others' complaints that predate my experience. Support has always been quick to respond and helpful in tweaking settings and offering fixes. I for one have been using their product since Sept. 2015, and besides the occasional incompatibilities that arise (usually as a result of a particular streaming service changing something which requires PlayOn to respond in kind to, usually a couple days inconvenience at most) I've been satisfied with the product and service and would recommend it. It's very handy especially for the wifi only Android tablets on the road. I stayed on the fence for years before taking a chance with them, and haven't regretted it yet.

I'm thinking this is worth it for $40. Let's assume every couple years they upgrade the service which forces you to "re-up" the lifetime license, for $20/year I think it is worth it. Am I right or wrong on that? Being able to record online streaming show easily just might finally wean me off DirecTV and its awesome DVR. I will miss ESPN but I think I can deal with that.

I bought the Lifetime License when they introduced 720p HD (about, what, 3 yrs ago or longer?). I haven't had to pay any more and I've had at least 5 updates since then at no charge.
