Prescription eyeglass - need lowcost lens replacement

herbf 353 26 July 17, 2016 at 10:20 AM
I'm looking for some help in finding a B&M or Online store where I can get a pair of Kate Spade eyeglass frames refilled w/ a stronger prescription for daughter.

The frames are like new, but she needs a stronger lens, and all the local places will only provide a 25% discount on a pair of lens that will run $150. They want to sell an entire new pair, saying they can do that for the same price.

Obviously it won't include a Kate Spade frame, just something generic that I could order online for far less than local B&M stores.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help!

Not online, but have you checked Groupon in your area. My daughter just got an awesome deal. Good luck

Where are you looking? I've never been to an optician in thirty years that didn't sell the frames and the lenses separately. All you should be paying for is the lens, and maybe a small fee to mount them. Look for smaller local opticians not associated with chains.

$150 is also obscene for just a pair of lenses. Does that also include the eye exam? Does your daughter have some insanely high prescription, or progressive lenses or something? You can get high-index Transition lenses for that much.

As for ordering online:

I've used 39dollar before, though never for a re-lens, so I can't comment on that.

If you don't have a backup pair of glasses for your daughter to use while the frames are shipped out, it might be worth it to buy a completely new pair from

They don't offer re-lensing, but you can get a pair of glasses for $10. And then you'll have your backup pair while you send in the good frames. I've bought many a pair from Zenni before. The frames are the quality you'd expect for $10, but for the price you can buy six of 'em and just toss them as they get broken.
