New build: cpu, motherboard, ram.

I need to a new cpu, motherbroad, and ram, but would like to keep this under 180 bucks. My question is: Is this cpu the best bang for my buck? I do a little video editing, but mostly surfing and MS office. Here's what I've found:

cpu--Intel Pentium G4400 Skylake for 65 bucks.

Motherboard--GIGABYTE GA-B150M-D3H (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 for 65 bucks (55 after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6813128874

Ram--16GBs for 52 bucks.

Total: around 180 bucks

I have two monitors (27" and 24"), no videocard, case, SSD and Storage drives, and an optical drive.

I've always found the contributors to this forum helpful. So, thanks in advance. look around

That processor get's a pretty high rating for Value/score on CPUMark but it's pretty slow in todays terms.

For instance a 6700k is just at 12,000, while the G4400 is 3680. The difference between those will be huge for video editing. If it was me I would Scrap together a bit more to get into something a bit faster. I spent more than $180 on my CPU in my last build (6700k) but it should last for 5+ years easily. $180 is hardly anything on the custom build end of things.

16gb of ram is most likely overkill for what your doing and the processor will be the limiting factor.

Don't forget your operating system, assuming you need windows.

Thanks for the advice! I hadn't thought about the possibility of the cpu limiting 16GBs of Ram... Since there's no possible way I can afford a 180 cpu I guess I could save some cash and get just 8GBs of Ram.

The CPU won't limit the amount of Ram you can use but with that processor I just think it's unlikely you will be doing something to use up 16gb of ram before you run into the limitations of the processor first. The one thing that might be the exception to this would be if you had literally a couple of hundred tabs open in Chrome or something like that.

With your budget, you'd get better performance out of AMD. The FX-4350 is definitely in your budget and the FX-6300 might be if you drop to 8GB RAM. Both would definitely do better editing video than the G4400.
