**** FIRE SALE ****

AUGUST 24TH UPDATE:
Lowe's really wants these bulbs gone. They are now marked down 90% (no typo).

You can purchase them either online or at the store. When 'scanned' the new price of $3.99 appears, (regularly $39.00)

The clearance sale lasts till the end of October, but I think by lunch time Thursday they will be sold out in all 50 states. They are flying off the shelves.

So the small print on this deal is that it will take some time & creative hunting on the Lowe's website to find a store within a region that has any. The good news is they have 1,840 stores.

If you do locate one, call the store to verify they actually do have any, and then place a phone order with customer service. Tell them you want "standard shipping" and the shipping cost is around $7 depending on quantity and distance.

ORIGINAL POST:

Regularly $39.99, on sale at Lowe's for $19.95. This appears to be one of the best prices on this particular LIFX bulb. I stumbled upon this sale yesterday while researching the LIFX brand.

The sale price at Lowe's, which is good through 8/31/16, is valid both in the store as well as online.

If purchasing online you must use a mobile phone type of web browser. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S6 with Chrome as the web browser. In Chrome at least, in the setup/options of Chrome you are able to choose what your phone looks like to a web server (mobile or a desktop). If I check "desktop" and then go to Lowe's.com -- the sale price does not show up.

But if I leave that options box unchecked, and then go to Lowes.com as a mobile device, I do get the sale price as shown in the two screenshots.

If all went well for you the screen will say that you must "put the bulbs in your e-cart" before the sale price is shown.

The other option is to physically go into a Lowe's store.
I bought 4 today at my local Lowe's store. There was no indication that they were on sale but when scanned at the checkout register the sale price came up automatically without me having to say anything to the clerk.

These are the first smart bulbs I've purchased so I cannot make any comparisons. Having said that I am extremely pleased with the purchase, and already thinking about where else I could put them.

Installation of the 4 bulbs took the better part of 2 hours to complete. Think of them as mini computers and not just a bulb that screws in. Part of the process involves updating the bulbs firmware, followed by several rounds of automatically rebooting. My advice is regardless of how many you purchase, only attempt to install one at a time. Screw one bulb in, go through the installation steps, unscrew the bulb and replace with the next one.

You absolutely can do the "installation" in a different lamp than you ultimately install it in. So instead of climbing up and down a 10 foot ladder, instead pick a small lamp that can be placed on a table top for less hassle.

These work with Amazon Echo, SmartThings, Nest, Google Now and probably almost every other hub out there.

To be clear this sale is for the most recent version (2.0)

Sale $19.95

Update: Holy Cow...I'm reallystruggling with entering this post tonight without it suddenly disappearing. A few individuals commented on one of my prior post attempts, that they were not able to get the sale price to show up even after they had added a bulb to their e-shopping cart.

As said above, apparently you must be using a "mobile browser" to get the price to appear.

I have attached (hopefully) two screenshots that I just took on my Android phone using Chrome. (Not that any of that should matter). See if your Lowe's shopping cart looks like the two screenshots that I've attached.

I was able to get the deal to show up after adding 4 to my cart on a standard desktop browser (firefox). Ordered some for in-store pickup. The only option for delivery was truck delivery for $65, no thank you.

Safari browser (iPhone) indicates they are on sale by "add to cart to see price"
Normal price for these are $30 at Best Buy.
So $20 is not unbelievable.
To each their own but as someone who has invested thousands in home automation I would advise against buying any type of bulbs.
My 1st HA purchases were bulbs and they gave me nothing but trouble.

In stock at a store kinda sorta near me for the $19.99 price (I used Firefox as well), out of stock everywhere else nearby. Good find though.
I have been picking up the WEMO white light bulbs from Frys when they have the occasional sale on them for 9 or 10 bucks, and they connect independently of the proprietary Belkin hub into the Samsung SmartThings hub (Zigbee) and then connecting them to the Amazon Echo infrastructure. It has been working GREAT!

Do you know of a good site that explains how to connect all those things? We have an Echo, but nothing connected to it. Only other "smart" thing in the house is the Rachio sprinkler system controller, but I haven't tried to connect it to Echo (I don't see the point).
Thx!

This is a decent primer. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2...889,00.asp

The big thing for me was to figure out how cross functional each component being added will be with everything else building out the infrastructure into the future.

I also like the http://m.smarthomedb.com/ site as it will give you a good idea about that stuff.

Lifx bulbs connect via wifi so no additional hub is required. The mobile app to control/configure them is available on the Apple / Android / Windows store

It's a really good deal if you are into home automation or you have an Amazon echo. I have several lights set up around the house.

Picked up last 5 from DFW area Lowe's. Still not sure if I should keep them, since these are not color Lifx's.
