On the front page of Office Depot/Office Max's ad for the week of July 17, they have Masterlock's basic 3-digit combination padlock on sale for $1. My local Staples has the same padlock for $4.99. Buy it at Staples and use their 110% price match guarantee to take it down to 60 cents per lock. Works on standard black and assorted color locks. Don't forget this week's Staples 25% back in rewards coupon to get back and additional 15 cents on each lock.
The model number for the Black lock is 1500D.
-1 7/8 inch wide body
-Shackle is 3/4" long and 9/32" in diameter.

Link to Staples for detailed information. [staples.com]
Staples online price is $6.54. If you order it online at this price, your final price after PM will be 45 cents each!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I'm trying to understand the math of Staples's 110% price match guarantee. Does their price match policy mean they will 100% price match and also include a 10% discount? Thus making the combo lock to be $0.90 before the Staples 25% back in rewards coupon not $0.60?

Yea I thought it would be $0.90 too; but I'm not that familiar with their policy. Either way, sounds like too much work to get the extra $0.10-$0.40. That being said, the $1 already sounds like a great deal to me! Could use one of these for the gym lockers..

No. They match the price, then they reduce it by 10% of the difference between their original price, and the competitor's price. The price difference at my Staples was $4. Therefore, I paid $1 less 10% of $4, which is $1 less 40 cents, or 60 cents.

You are a saint! I will try this tonight.

Do you know if I need a physical copy of the Office Depot/Max's weekly ad? Or can I show them the electronic copy on their website?

slight correction...by your own account in OP,..price was $4.99...and not $4. If it was $4 then the 110% price mach would of come out to $0.70......Thanks for posting...was able to only match one as the customer service rep wouldn't agree to do another.

OP mentioned that the $4 is the difference in price, not the original price

I showed them the add on my phone and stock availability for nearby OD stores. He also confirmed it on his end using their web browser...He made it way more serious than it was...

I brought in the physical ad, but in the past I've PM'ed to website ads from my phone.
I ended up buying 3 locks, but my store had about 12 more in stock.

I'll just buy at OD/OM. It's walkable from my abode. Staples is a good 8 miles away on a busy throughway.

I thought I try my luck of price matching it online through CS chat and this is the response I got:

"Unfortunately, I apologize to let you know that we cannot price match the item because it is on a promotion deal with office depot, we can only approve the price match if it is a regular sale on their end."

I'm going to have to try my luck at a physical location.

It's going to be a YMMV since the model number is slightly different at Staples. Staples model number is 1500D/DCM.

The Staples store will most likely have a floor stand of their version of the lock. The locks will most likely look similar to last years as per the following link:
