the district DW teaches in is pretty affluent (Dr's/lawyers mostly) and they see shit like this all the time - parents suing the district to get their way. I don't recall it happening over a sports team but it happens over GRADES all the time (e.g. kid needs an A in a class to get into honor society but gets a B instead so they sue).

The sad part is..... the district usually caves because you know, they'd rather spend their money on I dunno.... EDUCATION than paying lawyers to fight over stupid crap. you'd really like to fight it on principle but that just isn't the case.
