Was looking to purchase an iPhone SE and found Target has a GC offer.

$200 GC - all iPhones with activation of a new line on Device Payment Plan for Verizon Customers.
$50 GC - iPhone SE upgrades.
$150 GC - iPhone 6s upgrades.

Target website is showing only $50 and $150 offers. So, maybe this is in-store promotion only. As per the rep, should keep the line open for 30 days, can pay only tax at the store with RED card for 5% discount on iPhone SE but for iPhone 6s, can pay down payment to get 5% discount.

I know these deals are around all the time but did not find an active thread for the current promotion. Also, I remember there are other promotions on Samsung phones as well, but I did not bother to go through. Please update the post if you find more information.

Had anyone experienced anything bad before regarding opening a new line with Target for $200 GC and cancel immediately after going back home ? Rep says I have to keep it open for 30 days and also there will be a hard credit pull to open a new line as well. Why will there be a hard credit check when the Verizon account is already active ?

Any other traps in this deal ?

customer service reps aren't the most knowledgable and reliable source for info. No HP for credit if there is active line. Line does not need to remain open for 30 days, the phone is on DPP NOT a contract, you can simply pay off the phone and port out the number.

1.5 months back I did this , I opened a new connection and took iPhone 6s but make sure you pay full as much as possible for the phone and your should go immediately to Verizon office and cancel it in first 3 days. In my case I payed 748$ for my iphone6s 64 GB SPACE GRAY and instead of choosing the 2 year option in target system there is an option to pay for the phone which most of the sales reps won't tell you or the truth is they don't know it. I was working with a guy and he did it in front of me and I saw the option and asked him can we make more payment on the phone and we tried the fill price of 749.99 but system won't accept it so I paid 748 and kept a balance of 1.99 and took 200$ gift card and payed with target red card and saved 5% there also so over all a total of 245 $ savings. And then pay the 1.99$ to Verizon after a month when the bill gets generated . I have a unlocked phone now because I payed 748.

A month ago, I spoke to a rep in Target store who said I could pay up to $400 on a $500 phone and remaining on DPP, but at that time, GC required a new account. Today's rep said I cannot do down payment on iPhone SE since the phone is not expensive. Another rep in a different store was unsure of how much I can pay down payment. Maybe I should try with him and explain him his options to see if I can get the 5% discount on down payment.

All new customers receive a letter regarding the details of their new phone/plan on which it mentions a "contract period" of 30 days. Currently in a similar situation (50% off new DPP deal from a few weeks ago) and have spoken to multiple reps who all give conflicting information regarding the contract. Guess it's best to not take any risks and hold the line active for the month... ("ETFs" (arbitrary) up to $350 based on T&C)

Not if you cancel in first 3 days . You can walk in to any rep in Verizon store and they won't say this until you specifically ask . If you cancel the first 3 days they won't even charge you activation charge also .

Nothing bad happened when I canceled the same day from previous Target deals. No hard pull if you already have Verizon account and add new lines.

You won't see the stock online almost all the time , I just walked into the store near my house and they had all the variants stock even thought it showed online as out of stock .

How long ago was that? I'm curious as to how much time has elapsed since then, maybe the charge(s) just hasn't caught up with you?

So from what you're saying above, this is the sequence:

1. Buy [any] iPhone at Target; get GC
2. Put iPhone on DPP
3. Pay a lot down on said iPhone?
4. Go to Verizon within three days and cancel

Won't they want the phone back since it's within the 14-day window? What if you port out instead, does that accomplish the same thing in the end?

Very intriguing.

Have done it many times, whenever Target offers GCs, for a loooooooooooooooooong time Big Grin You don't have to do down payment unless the system asks you to, depending on your credit history. You can either pay off the remaining DPP online before canceling/porting out or the remaining DPP will become due on your next bill after cancelling/porting out.

Can you use the target gc towards your dpp?

What about buying a lg G4 from eBay for About 150 and trading it in to Verizon for 300 towards a 6s?

Target inflates their price on phones by a bit also.

And you still buy it from Target, pay off the DPP, and cancel all within 3 days like the other poster said?
