There are two sides to this argument ... one to wait and the other to buy. I am in the buy camp. I purchased another model EVGA GTX 950 a month ago and am very happy with it. The games that I play are not too graphically intensive so it plays them with ease. While this is not the fasted, most capable card out there it has been ranked as the current "best value" card by Passmark here, beating out the 750 and 960:

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net...50&id=3295

I plan to purchase this card when I get home ... It is on sale, it has a rebate that further reduces the price AND it comes with a promo credit for WOW, which I play almost every day.

Recommendation: If you are looking for the most capable card currently out there then look at the 1080 (or similar) class of card. If you are looking for the best value in a video card that plays most all games well in 1080p (the card for the rest of us) then this is it.

FYI - The link to the video card on sale is correct, but the title is not 100% correct.

The one on sale is the (02G-P4-2951-KR) version, not the (02G-P4-2956-KR) version which is actually $136.99 after $30 rebate.

The 970 has recently been on sale for $180 new and the 960 I believe was 150? Or maybe it was the r9 380.. Anywho, the 950 goes on sale to $100 fairly often, so if you still want to wait then by all means. If we look at an expanded passmark price-performance chart [videocardbenchmark.net] we can see the 960/970 right below and the $400 1070 a little below that. These are retail prices, but you can see the 950, 970, and 1070 (480 must be too new?) as the best value cards to your respective budget.

I think waiting is smarter... AMD's release of the 460/470 could have a notable impact on prices, like the 480 did, if those cards offer good performance per $. The 1060 seems to performance similar to the 480 but the 4GB 480 is $50 less retail. Granted it's 4GB vs 6Gb but but at this price range, I doubt 6GB will be of that much benefit.

if 100 is all you can spend you're not going to do any better

it's slightly better than a 750ti and those are selling used on ebay around 80ish

where? that's less than used on the 970 via ebay today

the 1070 also will smoke a 970. the 970 is about 58% of the card a 1070 is. the 1070 is a direct tie with a 980ti. look at at least 3 benchmarks and at least 15 games when comparing cards. you will see trends

Spoken like a true SD gamer. I've seen people recommend gtx 1080 for just 1080p gaming and I slowly weep inside. Also I was curious myself, so I looked into the 4gb vs 8gb rx 480 and yea.. only 5-8% difference. Judging off frames for Witcher 3 that's like 51 vs 56. For $50 difference I would say it's completely worthless which leads me to believe the gtx 1050 will run 5-8% difference for $50 less, which is completely worthwhile.

Correction $175. Deal can be found here, but is currently OOS.

And I mentioned "respective budget" because if you can afford a 1070, great, but for those of us who spend that much on a complete PC it's not really affordable. I would say bottom line the $100 950 is worth it if you can't justify spending $50 more on a 960 or $50 more for 970 (or $50 more 1060 etc).

if you can't buy it it doesn't matter that's still 199 after rebate not 175 which is about what the 970 is worth really. now that the 1060 is selling 249-259 it's hard to argue it being worth more than 200. i don't think everyone has caught on though. used prices are still right at 200ish

1060 is also outperforming the 480 in most every benchmark. in some tests it's a little slower than a 980 but not by much. in most tests it's neck and neck with a 980

Thank you guys for all your help! ( I don't want to quote everybody and make a super-long comment) but I've decided to hold out a few days for the RX-460 which should be released soon and see prices after that. If there's no word on it, I'll pick this deal up next time around

where does someone even find a 4GB RX480 anymore? It looks like they all but disappeared.

Not worth it when the AMD 460 and 470 are just around the corner at $100 and $150 respectively. Unless you absolutely need a card RIGHT NOW.

Your 760 is a better card.

This is an "ok" deal. Bought the GTX960 4GB superclocked (physically looks the same as this) a few months ago from Newegg for $170 new with a free copy of Rise of the Tomb Raider (a $50 value at the time); so the card was essentially only $120. I wished I would've gotten something more powerful because with Tomb Raider, putting things near max settings makes the card stutter; so I'm not even sure how much the GTX950 2GB can put out. On that note, I'm not sure how well the GTX960 will hold up to games being released in the near future being that the newest affordable cards like the ATI RX480 is able to push new limits.
