I'm looking for a desktop. This looks decent to me compared to what I've seen on SD recently. Granted, I'm at the beginning of my search so I haven't done enough research yet to be confident.

Costco had an HP with a 6700, 16gb ram, 2TB and everything else except a 300w supply similar for $599 with a 2 year warranty. Typing on it right now.

Newegg regularly sells an Acer i7-4790 with 12GB, 1TB and another 300w supply for $430. Those are refurbished customer returns with no hours on them. I have one of those popped open in the other room having a power supply replacement and ssd put in. Zero hours on the hard drive and it looks brand new. These might have been Costco returns as Costco dumped a ton of them and had a high initial return rate.

Other than el cheapo motherboards the cases on both are nice, the Acer is limited to an ITX video card but the HP can take a full size, the Acer needed a 92mm fan added for case cooling...pretty good. I like the 8900's and came close to getting one when they were closer to $500 with a big coupon a couple of weeks ago. Good case, slightly better motherboard than these, and a power supply that at least will do low end graphics cards like a 950 or 960.

The 4790 gives similar performance and power usage as the 6700. The skylake graphics in the 6700 are a lot better (relatively) if you're in need of a better igpu.

But these i7 builds pop up all the time for <$600 and often close to $400.

I stopped buying from Dell directly as they now charge FULL sales tax.
Now I buy only from dealers who do not charge me any sales tax PLUS they ship for free.
Goodbye Dell, you lost a very good customer.

Pretty good deal. Plenty of power for normal everyday use. But will need a GPU and ram upgrade for gaming.

Wow, you are(were) not a LOYAL customer. If you were you'd stick with them despite them having to follow the LAW. They are not making any more profit from the sales tax, they have to give that to the government.

This 1000 times. If you have any problem with your order, very likely you will be transferred back and forth between all departments until you finally give up laugh out loud
