eBay seller getitdigital has the Sony e-mount 55mm f/1.8 on sale for $699.00 and ships free.

It's a gray market version with 1 year seller warranty.

One of the more popular and positively reviewed lenses for the Sony A7 full frame series.

(Side note: Sony has announced a new 50/1.4 e-mount lens. Also, the $699 price for this lens comes around every couple months from different eBay import sellers so it's definitely not uncommon.)

But-- if you're eligible, there's a YMMV ebay bucks promo currently, which would make this a pretty good deal.

I bought this same lens from that same seller last month, except back then they offered a 3 year seller warranty. The box arrived slightly dented, but otherwise looks and works as new.

Great deal - one of the main lenses that drew me into the Sony full frame system

Pretty good deal. The new 50/1.4 is like $1500 so it's more than double.

Anyone who owns both the 24-70 f/2.8 GM and the 55mm f/1.8? I have the 24-70 already and am thinking that although there's a DOF advantage with 1.8 vs 2.8 and the 55mm is probably sharper, I have my doubts that the differences would be significant enough to warranty the extra $$.

Differences in bokeh will be VERY noticeable. I'm sure you have read, the 55FE is noted as a "mini Otus" of the Sony line.

If your main concern is DOF, you'll get it with this lens. For all other practical/realistic every day shooting, the 24-70 will suffice.

Source: I don't have the 24-70GM, but I do have the Canon 24-70L II, which is just as sharp that I use with Metabones. For portraits/DOF work, i still use a 55FE or a Canon 50L or 85L. Everyday journalism though, the 24-70 is fine for me.

Does anyone have thoughts on this versus the Sony FE 1.8/50? From what I've read, this lens is obviously better, but is it $250 vs. $700 better?
