Is there a reason this is dual band other than for versatility? You can't possibly connect to both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz for double throughput, could you?

If you have wifi then you already have an Internet provider I am assuming. So yes this should help you connect wirelessly to the Internet.

You can only connect to one band , 2.4 or 5. The 5 ghz band has the advantage of being able to transmit more data, so it's technically a faster connection than the 2.4. Disadvantage is that the 5 ghz band works best when you are closer to the router. 2.4 ghz band is able to travel further

Yes! You need a wifi usb adapter. What's your router? Does it support AC speed?

You can only connect to either one. But 5 GHz band is so much faster (theoretical maximum of 1.3 Gigabit per second (Gbps)) and less interference. 2.4 GHz is usually very crowded and much slower compared to 5 Ghz band

Lots of the top reviewers got theirs "discounted". I find it hard to trust any item on Amazon that gives the item at a discount for an "honest" review.

Can anyone who owns this product and has a 150 Mbps Internet connection verify it actually gets 150 Mbps?

I had an issue before where I bought a highly-rated Cat 5e Ethernet cable from Amazon that only gave me 100 Mbps on the LAN, even though I had a gigabit router and the SSD could read faster than 100 Mbps. The hard drive it was writing to could also write higher than 100 Mbps, and I'm sure the cable was the problem, because it maxed out at almost exactly 100, which is where a Cat 5 Ethernet cable would max out and not a Cat 5e Ethernet cable would.

I think you means MBps which is close to gigabit speeds. Assuming you were monitoring in Windows which is displaying bytes not bits. If that isn't the case and you were stuck on 100 mbps then yes this or quite a few n adapters are faster. That's a big "if" though. good luck

You don't need another internet service provider. Just plug in the adapter to your desktop and connect to existing WiFi network.
