Hello all,

Daughter is going to a NJ state school (TCNJ). Nevertheless, I'm looking at loan options. I'm trying to keep it all in her name since she'll be going for an education degree and from my understanding, there are programs out there that, after college, your employer will subsidize/write off your student loan payment.

Any experience with this? I'm an immigrant and have no experience dealing with college here in the US.

Would appreciate any help/guidance. Thanks in advance.

I believe that https://fafsa.ed.gov/ is a good place to get started.

The Office of Financial Aid at TCNJ [tcnj.edu] will be able to assist you/your daughter.

Keep in mind that in order to have her loans forgiven in part or in full, there are specific guidelines that need to be met [ed.gov]. My wife was an English major and there have been no opportunities for loan forgiveness for English teachers in our area, so my advice to your daughter would be to choose her major carefully if loan forgiveness is a priority.

Be careful assuming loan forgiveness. Always always always assume the entire burden of debt will be her responsibility. If she gets some debt forgiven then that is a plus but should not be a goal for taking on the debt.

The school has dedicated staff to help with things like this.

Check with the school they will have a financial aid department, as will her high school.
