Rebate card allowing more than amount on card?

I just got the $50 reward card from the Dell 3050 and went to 7/11 and bought $58 worth of actual gas without a problem. I expected it to shut off at $50 like any other reward card but it just kept on pumping LOL. What is going on here?

I can't explain what happened here, but one of my Staples rebate MetaBank Visas allowed me to go over by $1.xx also.

We had a 2nd car to fill up as well, so I tried a test at the same 7/11.

Think I figured out the loophole. I assume this is just a 7/11 thing, since each chain probably sets their own risk limits.

On a $5 ASUS rebate card, the same pump slowed then cut off at $5.00

Same for a $15 reward MSI AMEX.

But on another $50 slickdeals reward card it kept going past $50, this time to $94.29 USING PREMIUM GAS ON my friend's large Ford van.

They must have something where if your card can be authorized for say... over $25, then you can pump a full tank! I have no idea who is paying for this oversight but LMAOO.

We offered the cashier the difference in cash, tried to explain we were basically stealing gas but he was super confused and said to just head out...

I think I've seen fine print in the paperwork that has come with some of my prepaid rebate cards that says you are responsible for any overages. YMMV

IIRC $44.29 is enough that you will be billed for the negative balance.

I've been using my dogs' names for rebates and freebies for years. At this point the dogs get mail from everyone from Marlboro to the local State Farm agent (he wants to offer them car insurance). Big Grin
