Not sure if this is just local, but I received an email on this deal: buy a $35+ membership with the NRA in-store at Bass Pro this weekend, and receive a $25 gift card. This puts the cost of the 1-year membership at $10, which is lower than the 'standard' $25 deal price.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the small print, but I assume we can sign up as many family members as we want and can use multiple gift cards per purchase. In past years, these have gone down to $25 with $25 gift card, but this seems the best deal going right now. Some immediate benefits are the NRA insurance that covers your firearms, magazine subscription, a few discounts, support for youth education programs like Eddie Eagle, and Boy Scout range grants.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

What does a membership to the NRA do for you? Do you get discounts or anything like that?

So a membership card, a subscription to a magazine, and life insurance if I die hunting?

Bingo. Another big benefit is the insurance coverage for your firearms. Most homeowners insurance covers about $1000-$2500 worth of firearms. Gun owners know, that can represent ONE rifle or shotgun, leaving you on the hook for the rest of your collection. A single $1500 rifle with $1500 scope setup is not unusual, some would call that 'low budget'. The NRA membership adds an additional $2500 coverage for free, and has options for more at a discount rate. They also support a great deal of education programs for youth and women, as well as generally setting the safety standards for CCW that most states follow.

As far as what they have done, recently they are responsible for expanded CCW in Illinois and California/Hawaii, as well as being involved in many precedent-setting cases.

There are also a host of benefits that apply specifically to police and first responders, and IIRC active military.

Yeah, the hoplophobes are already out in droves. Oh well, hopefully someone gets some use out of this deal. Maybe even some new gun owners join, take an NRA designed safety/CCW course, buy an NRA approved gun safe, follow the NRA developed safety rules, and generally become more responsible and safe citizens. Wink

Might want to put in title that you have to buy a 1 year membership.

"1 year NRA Membership + $25 Gift Card - $35 In Store" or similar.

Edited title, hopefully its more clear.

Something else to note, enrolling your family for the insurance may end up being cheaper than raising your Homeowners insurance to cover your collection. Frex, in a 4-member household, with this deal each member could join for $10 after gift card, and each receive $2500 in coverage. Thats $10,000 in coverage for $40 a year. Typically this kind of Homeowners insurance coverage would cost more than that, and have more strict rules about serial numbers etc.

After California passed their new gun control laws I am contemplating becoming a member for the first time. Thanks.

Sounds like a great gift for your local policeman as they could learn a thing or two about gun safety.

the NRA plays a super important role, and if you're a gun v owner the least you can do is buy a membership... name another group the fights so hard for your second amendment right. regardless how you feel about guns, if the gov decides to strip us all of our guns, it will be to late to voice your opinion.
