Thanks! Picked up one. Code doesn't work for the 600A model but this is downright cheap at $39 and no tax (CA).

Instead of a heavy lead battery, it's a small lithium battery. The included cables have circuitry (likely including a capacitor) so they can give the required amperage momentarily. From the (non biased) videos and reviews I've read, they work quite well for light duty applications. If you try to use them for too long though, the cables will actually heat up and melt, or the overheat protection will shut it off. In short. This should be fine unless you drive a big diesel in a cold climate

Last Christmas, I bought my dad of of these type units (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MG687JW/) and he was very skeptical at first. I told him just toss it in his trunk in case he ever needs it. Sure enough, he drained the battery in his V8 Lincoln Towncar one day. He couldn't find anyone with jumper cables but then remembered the jumper pack that I gave him. It took him a few minutes to figure it out but once he got it connected, the car started right up. He couldn't believe it. Great little things to have. I personally have a 900 A booster pack in my truck (https://www.amazon.com/Booster-ES...B0002SQTYG) and it's started everything I've thrown at it, including a diesel truck with dual batteries that were both dead.

A lifehack I read and almost tried once is that when there isn't anyone around to jump you, you can call an uber and when they get there ask them to do it and give them a few bucks

Bought the Schumacher SJ4 from walmart for $33 last night due to my battery dying...this looks more convenient to carry, in for one.

I'm wondering if this jump starter is good for metal engraving as described in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGtDz_rGgs8

At this price, I'm gonna try one out in spite of the questionable quality of reviews.

I have had good experience with these types units in the past so I'll be optimistic that the "all made in the same factory in China" theory applies here.

Almost all are made in China. I bought one from an established brand, RAV4, and it was still made in China.

I mean iphones are made in China, but there's a big difference between established companies like Anker (and RAV4, apparently) and the fly by night ones that use fake reviews and cut every possible corner.

I should've been more specific.

Gooloo. Where do these Chinese companies come up with these tepid, cryptic names? I'd like to hire myself out to these companies as a brand consultant.

"Hey, have your tried those new Gooloo jump starters? They're the bomb!"

See what I'm saying? It just doesn't have that appropriately brawny, descriptive ring so favored by American consumers. Durastart. Now that's a proper name for a jump starter.

Megacell. Powerblast. Ultraspark. Instaignition. Travelsure. Voltinator. Reliastart I could keep this up all the live long day, people.

Quickvolt. Thunderlaunch. PowerKing. GigaBlast....
