Hello, I hope you are doing well.

T-Mobile is offering its customers free 4G LTE data, calls, and texting at the Rio Olympics during August 2016.

Click here for the press release at T-Mobile.com [t-mobile.com]

Details from the press release:
  • Starting August 1, T-Mobile is unleashing free unlimited high-speed data throughout Brazil for its customers, so wherever they roam in Brazil this August – all month long – they'll get the fastest available roaming speeds up to 4G LTE. And, calls within Brazil and back home to the US are free – as is texting worldwide.
  • Family members of US athletes headed to Brazil... [can] get up to two free smartphones per athlete activated with T-Mobile service ahead of the Summer Games. Learn more at www.t-mobile.com/brazil [t-mobile.com] or contact RoamFreeInRio@t-mobile.com.
  • Simple Choice postpaid customers don't have to lift a finger to get these benefits.
I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Sorry for being off-topic: What is the cheapest simple choice family plan with 2 lines that I can get? From tmo's website, the cheapest I see is a 80$, for 2 lines with 2GB data and unlimited voice and text each. Is that it?

Currently I'm on a grand-fathered plan, that doesn't give me simple choice benefits like global roaming, the above promotion, etc. TIA and sorry for hijacking this thread.

That sounds like what we're on with Simple Choice. Only discounts I know of are employee/student.

Some other benefits though-free music streaming for most apps, free YT, Netflix, Amazon etc video streaming (though only at 480P). And their T-Mobile Thursdays frequently has offers, though you may already be eligible for that. This week was 1 yr unlimited Pokemon Go data laugh out loud

Unfortunately, I don't have time to do research to answer your question; I'm not considering it a hijack of any sort and hope that someone can help you.

I also have a grandfathered plan called "Select Choice,", including a grandfathered T-Mobile Advantage. I recently chatted with a T-Mobile representative and asked for the full list of the Uncarrier promotions for which I am eligible. The following is the list I was provided:

Here's the list for your Select Choice plan: Simple Global, Stateside International Unlimited Texting, No contract (Un-Contract) or activation fee, Music Freedom and Binge ON ( as long as the line do have 3GB data and above, this is for the video streaming not to count in your data)
What he didn't state is that I also have T-Mobile Tuesdays and the data rollover. He did make it clear that I have Simple Global and not Mobile without Borders.

Am already on binge music/video and even tmo-Tuesdays. With these binge video stuff, I wouldn't mind a 70$ for 1GB each plan, if its available (like an unadvertised plan).

Thanks Tofu Vic. I'll call/chat. And if I find anything useful, I'll share. Smilie

Edit: Googled and found out that tmo account holders with promotional plans can add mobile without borders for 10$ a month. See publication here (may be of use to someone):
https://newsroom.t-mobile.com/doc...doc_id=159.
I'll add it the next time I travel internationally.

Makes it easier to call your family from Rio and tell them, yes, you're still alive.

I chat with T-Mobile representatives on a near monthly basis. I don't do this with any other company - well, I do chat with my credit union representatives pretty often - but T-Mobile chat representatives being amazingly helpful, resourceful, and courteous makes a big difference.

I must agree 100%. The very few times I've chatted or called, the reps were amazingly helpful!

If I was going to Rio, cellular costs would be the least of my concerns.
