A very serious warning about all of these Code readers -

DO NOT USE OR INSERT THE CD/USB/DVD THAT COMES WITH THESE READERS, INTO YOUR COMPUTERS.

Almost 99% of these drivers are infected with viruses. Not just any viruses. MR.ROBOT style camera capture viruses.

Your best option is this -
Buy a cheap scanner on ebay ($3~5$)
Install an expensive (paid for ) app on Google App Store or Apple App store
(Torque Pro - is a very good one - worth every penny).

Again - for the love of god dont insert the CDs/DVDs/USBs that come with these cheap readers.

Its a huge global racket.

What China is doing with Identity theft is not limited to Federal employees. They are going after individuals (for possible blackmail/espionage) on a global scale.

Fun fact - almost all major rebate/cashback websites are chinese owned/invested.

I bought one of these once from another site and tried to install the software. My virus checker caught it and I reached out the vendor who refunded my money. It was a bluetooth version, but I didn't have any software to use it.

Maybe I'll look into installing that Torque Pro app on my phone and using it as my diagnostic tool.

Seems far fetched. I'd think anyone or any merchant selling goods infected with spyware will be banned promptly.

I got the one listed above from eBay for dirt cheap. The thing is, they shouldn't have included the CD ROM which is Windows-based. Most people get these for their android/ios anyway.

just FYI - I had a cheap ELM Bluetooth adapter and torque pro. the OBD2 adapter still drew current even when the car was off.

I don't know if this will be the same...

General comment:
If you have an adapter like this one, an android phone, and a Ford vehicle, check out the free FordSys app. For my F350 7.3 diesel, it works way better than torque pro.
