Thread Details

Good evening, take it easy on me as its my first post on here. As some of you have heard, Verizon is going to cut ties with some of their top tier data users that are still on unlimited (ME!). So I have one phone thats on a two year contract its not one of the unlimited lines, so I was curious what would happen with that if they kick me off the network. I go on to look at everything, and it offers me new phones with two year contract the minute I sign on with my Verizon login. I decide to see what happens and add it to cart. Much to my surprise, I went through the ENTIRE upgrade process and it DID NOT MAKE ME CHOOSE A NEW PLAN!! I screenshot on EVERY SINGLE SCREEN and double checked everything! But long story short it let me keep my unlimited plan and enter into a two year contract which will hopefully lock in my unlimited data for two more years! I'm going to do this on both of my unlimited lines. I hope this helps someone that risks getting kicked off the network. I use the heck out of my data (sometimes 400 GB a month), and while I realize its a bit ridiculous, it is also ridiculous how VZW treats its customers, and what they charge every month. I don't feel bad in the least!! Let me know if it works for you

You can't use those phones on your account. The minute you power them on, your UDP will be stripped.

Sell them on Swappa, and then use the money to buy brand new phones at full retail. That is the only way you won't lose UDP.

On an amusing side note, when a coworker of mine was pissed that her grandfathered unlimited data plan went from $30 to $50 per month, she "retaliated" by launching Netflix on autoplay, then throwing it in her office drawer each day at work.

I'm not mad at Verizon, I mean its unfair what they charge consumers but I understand that I've been abusing the unlimited for like 4 years. I haven't paid for home internet until this week because my old house had worse landline service then my cell service. I have run every device off of my hotspot for 4 years. Thats abuse.

Whats ridiculous is that Verizon's 100 gb a month plan costs $450 a month + devices + taxes. Thats robbery.

verizon classified their LTE as "broadband", so you are free to use it as broadband.

Verizon will be disconnecting unlimited data customers who use significantly more than 100 gb per month...

What is ridiculous is that SD *is not* your personal support forum.

Yes. They don't go by the SIM card anymore. They go by the device IMEI.

When the phones arrive, do not power them on. Take out the SIM cards. Snap them in half and toss them. List phones on Swappa. Make $$$. Use $$$ to buy a new phone at full retail. Or get another phone off of Swappa.

This is precisely why I'm upgrading involving a 2 year contract that shows me as retaining my unlimited data. Which is the whole point of this thread.

Those data plans were going on ebay for $500 each a piece at one point. Probably not worth as much now that Verizon is cracking down but still may be worth looking into
