Many reviews are based on inexperienced operators. Albeit if youre after something such as this, youre likely not using it on a paid/pro job. Ive tried most hand held sprayers such as this and they all pretty much suck. The best bang for the buck is the Graco X9. If youre painting a house its well worth it. Ive base painted entire film sets in minutes with the thing. The main issue with hand held units is the fan spray, its an off/on pattern resulting in a patterned paint application. Youll also spend hours refilling and priming hand held units if youre after it for anything other than an approx 6x6 patch. Hand held sprayers are a great idea thats still just not there yet.

This thing is as good as garbage. Graco X9 is also a cheapo sprayer. All those sprayers at HD/Lowes are non commercial very light use and will not last. If your going to drop $400+ go to SHerwin Williams and check out therer pro buy catologs. They have better end sprayers of Titan and Graco for $700ish at the bottom line. You wont see 1 single sprayer at HD at any stand alone paint store. There is a reason for that. If you are looking for the cheapest best sprayer. Titan 440 or Graco 395/390 is as low as you want to get in sprayer. Which are about $700-$800. Quite a price difference. These handheld things will just waste your money and spit and never give you a good result. Plus save you no time after cleaning out and refilling the half quart size. If your thinking about painting anything other then interior trim this isn't necessary. Even then I wouldn't recommend it.Staining/Interior/Exterior all need to be back rolled or applied by brush to cover the heavy grain of woods. Just spraying doesn't result in proper coverage or adhere to the wood/grain

Depending on the sheen of the stain. You need to apply it by brush/roller. I assume your fence is wood. It wouldn't last or hold up to the elements if just sprayed on

I wouldn't try it. I've used both this sprayer and Plasti dip and I think the dip would be to thick for it. just my opinion.

Thats odd. My X9 has outlasted and out performed higher dollar units and is still going strong.

I have sprayed 10,000+ gallons through several titan 440's. I run a painting business. Glad yours has held up but they are directed for light home owner use. Not specifically made to last 10+ years hence there price point Graco will tell you the same.
I assume you dont use this regularly. Out performance is solely based off user ability, knowledge and skill. The X series will not out spray any of the machines I have used. (call a graco rep they will tell you the same) There designed for different intentions.I do cabinets, Exterior, and Interior residential. Non commercial painting I am the #1 rated/reviewed (4.93 stars out of 5) business on Porch.com in Washington state.

HVLP is not used to spray much more then cabinets/trim/doors. If your spraying interior you should be also bankrolling the drywall interior. You will find out why when your done painting Smilie

I also have no problems with the grace x9, have done multiple jobs between latex/oil base paint and its holding up really good. I just sprayed 40g primer + 15 ceiling and it looks fantastic. I also did not back rolled it, I see there is pros on doing it, just didn't have the time and labor to do it. But for me that's not a real problem, I just use a sheet rock sander to prep the walls for the finish coats. Which I would do even if was back rolled.

My Graco X9 has served me well over the years. Proper cleaning and storage.
I'm guess if you're a professional painter it may not be your first choice.
