A colleague of mine mentioned a website, cybrary.it, for free online IT training, particularly in the field of IT / Network / Cyber Security, but it also has some other IT disciplines.

Cybrary.it - Free Online IT Training [cybrary.it]

Some of the free courses [cybrary.it]:
  • CompTIA (A+, Linux+, Cloud+, Security+, CASP)
  • ITIL
  • Cisco CCNA
  • Security couses of all kinds
  • PCI
  • HIPAA
  • Ethical Hacking, Computer & Hacking Forensics
  • Microsoft MCSA
  • Microsoft Office 365 Web Content Mgt / SharePoint
  • Virtualization Management
  • Python for Security Professionals
  • Cloud Security - CISSP, CSSLP, CCSP
  • COBIT
  • Project Management Professional (PMP [cybrary.it])
  • Risk Management
The site also has an online forum for community support & collaboration and free study guides [cybrary.it].

Note: despite the .it domain suffix, this is an American company in Maryland. About cybrary.it [cybrary.it].

They do offer some services for a fee, such as practice labs or their completion certificates. They also have something called cyberbytes that you earn for certain activities. Still navigating myself around the site to learn more, so I'm not clear on all the details. But, the training is free.

Most certifications require approved education units. These probably won't qualify, particularly for the initial certification, but they might be acceptable for maintaining certification. YMMV. The cyrary.it site says the following:

"The acceptance of CEU / CPE credits through completion of training on Cybrary is solely the decision of the authorizing certification body."

If you don't need actual formal educational units for a certification, this seems to be a great site to get free education.

His wifi is ATT with 12 random characters in the password and WPA2. It would take a week with that.

CASP, CISSP, and CCNA are very good certifications to have.

Or, they could just rob their local convenience store and buy their own Internet right away, as well as spend the money on other useful things. If you're going to advocate being a criminal and stealing, you might as well up the game and get more out of it. Go big or go home.

If you're that desperate (lazy?) for free Internet access, you can probably get it at your local library, and some Internet providers offer very low cost Internet for those who qualify.

Uh oh...

"Encrypting the Net: Use 'Let's Encrypt' SSL to..."
Also a lot of "5 ways to..." titles.

Sounds like there is a lot of koolaid and click-bait on this website. At least the actual course modules look promising...
