Or just buy a 2ds for $80. Unless you care about xenoblade or the 3d function then there is not much reason to spend this much more imo.

I would like to point out that the 2DS doesn't work with the SNES virtual console games. They are "New" 3DS(XL) specific. Oh and the 2DS doesn't have the built in NFC reader for amiibo functions.

The 2ds is a good deal, but the screen size is a big difference for me. Having played on 2ds, 3ds, and 3ds XL units, I really appreciate having that larger screen on the XL series. That may also be an important difference to some.

It also has faster hardware, a larger screen, two additional shoulder buttons, and a second analog 'stick' on the right side in the form of the C-stick nub, and stereo speakers, as well as being built with higher quality materials. I would say those are all things that someone might consider relevant.

edit: also built-in Amiibo support (which does nothing for me personally)

I recently got in on a 2DS deal, partially because many reviews said they were the most comfortable for people with large hands. As it turns out, it's not that comfortable for me so I started looking into grips for it. The one type that looked decent is nowhere to be found; out of stock everywhere. So in my case, I'll be selling the 2DS to get a 3DS with trigger grips so I can actually play for more than a few minutes at a time.

Decent deal, especially with Redcard.

I will say that in the past 5 months or so, twice GameStop has had a trade-in promo where they'll give you $100 for the old system if you trade in an old 3DS and buy a New 3DS. Might be worth it to wait for that again if you already have an old 3DS.

I assume you have tried Gamestop?

Checked it out before in person and it looks like a nice comfortable accessory, although I don't find that I really need it. Not available online though so you would have to get lucky with a nearby store having stock.

I wish I knew this. I just got a 2DS and half the reason I did was for old stuff. Boo. I should have done some research.
