B&H Offers HP Omen pro 15.6" Workstation Laptop with 15.6" 1080P IPS Touchscreen Display, Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit, Core i7-4870HQ 2.5GHz Quad Core, 16GB DDR3L 1600MHz Ram, Nvidia Quadro K1100M 2GB Workstation Card, 512GB PCIe SSD, Dual band WiFi AC @ $1099 with F/S. It weights 4.68 lbs (2.12 kgs).

Now let me clear one thing, this laptop is not a Gaming Laptop at all, so don't compare it with gaming laptops with similar configuration. This Laptop is build for Professional workloads and fetures hardware accordingly.
The Processor i7-4870HQ is more powerful than i7-6700HQ is almost all benchmarks. The Graphics card is quadro one and tweked or Workstation type of load and not optimized for gaming.
The Display is also calibrated for professional works and covers 96% of sRGB matrix and has 300 cd/m2 brightness. Also it comes with 3 years of warranty.

Only reason I can possibly think of is the age of the hardware?

Seems good to me, TU.

I have been waiting for one of these Omens to go on sale for a year. However, I seem to remember the ones WITH the nicer graphics card in the $800-$900 range last year. The one is't for gaming, and is over $1,000.....so in my mind, what makes this any better than any other $800 laptop that I see with similar specs?

Also, $100 more on Amazon....so not much of a super deal.

The specs on the Amazon model list a 4720 CPU vs the 4870 at B&H. The 4870 has Iris Pro graphics with 128MB of eDRAM.

This is not a Gaming laptop and Graphics card wise it has a Quadro series Workstation Graphics card. I hope you know the difference between Gaming Graphics card and Workstation Graphics card. The Drivers of the Quadro cards are optimized for Workstation and Productivity suites, Dual Precision Floating Point calculation And precision calculation whereas gaming cards mainly rely on high speed but not precised calculation and single precision calculation. For this, all the manufacturers charge a premium for the workstation cards.

The fact that it's a workstation machine that original price is over $2400 maybe?

Does that mean they'll stop trying to force the upgrade on machines for people who don't want it then?

Yes, of course. After that date, MS will most likely release a update to remove the nag.

Oh thank god. We have an issue running our software on 8 or above, I had to do rollbacks on a few of our machines here at work, it's such a PITA.

I was thinking that the three year warranty makes it a better deal
