It seems the deal is actually

$465.56 - 10% off ($46.56) code MKPLCALL3 = $419.00

$50 gift card makes it essentially $369.00... not a bad price for this unit.

Would prefer the TX-NR 646 for $269.00 but I've been waiting for months for another deal on that and nothing yet so this is tempting...

I should have purchased this instead of the 838...pre-outs don't help to make my Atmos system a 7.1.2, so I essentially wasted money on that AVR when this one would have worked just fine. Good deal, but I'm eventually looking for a 9 channel AVR to fit my needs. TU anyway.

Not bad, still think I'll hold out for the 646. Has to come back on sale soon....right?!? I keep telling myself that..

I don't think the update to enable DTS:X is out yet. Regardless, there is very little content using DTS:X at this time.

I snagged mine for $287 from Frys in May and have been very happy with it. I was expecting to eventually see it down to $250, but I agree that the deals seemed to have dried up for it. Personally I think any price under $299 is very reasonable for what you get. A few years ago, I got a refurb of that years equivalent of the 747 for $269, but I have not seen that deal since.

The manual just says it will be enabled in a future update, but I don't see it mentioned in the notes of their latest firmware (which also includes the notes from previous releases). Might not be available yet, but I would hope soon given that it's been out for quite some time.

Right? I Hope so too! I still can't believe I missed that May deal (though, it seemed to be in-store pickup only and I'm on the East Coast)

The DTS:X firmware is not out yet and the ETA continues to be pushed out. Don't buy this if you want DTS:X today.

Edit: After I write this, I see that the DTS:X FW release is scheduled for 8/31/16.

Were those defective ones recent? I thought they fixed that!

Doesn't DTS: X enhance existing material as well? I thought it also helps with the dialogue clarity for existing content.

Can anyone who has heard DTS: X confirm?

DTS:X Features you can expect on first generation products:

Backward Compatibility: DTS:X builds upon existing DTS-HD Master Audio to provide backward compatibility with existing DTS bitstreams and speaker layouts. In short, all features of DTS-HD Master Audio are supported and enable an immersive audio experience for older content.

The DTS:X content is backward compatible with the DTS-HD decoder
The DTS:X decoder supports DVD, Blu-ray Disc (BD) and streaming media file formats
DTS:X can spatially reformat stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 content to take full advantage of all speakers in a surround system
Objects are never lost; if the object is embedded, it can be extracted and used in the rendered experience

Purchased last year, but left a bad taste in my mouth. I always heard good things, but that was my only experience.

Hopefully it is fixed !!!!!!!
