Thread Details

Costco has Acer Aspire Switch Alpha 12 2-in-1 Ultrabooks with i5-6200U, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD, Keyboard Dock, Active Stylus @ $699 + $14.95 Shipping. Tax in most states. But I have checked and even with tax, this price is lower than the previous deal I posted.

This 2-in-1 Detachable laptop is the best Surface Pro Clone yet but instead of less powerful Core M processors in sub 1K Sufrace Pro 4, it comes with full fledged Core i5/ Core i7 Processors without any active cooling, thanks to its latest Cooling Loop Technology. It works extremely good and there is no Throttling even at higest load as suggested by various reviewers

The membership fee of $55 kills the deal.

Seems like a good price for a Surface clone. Anyone gotten a chance to use this? How does it compare to the Surface Pro 4?

I bought it 2 weeks back. so far I love it. a few tradeoffs, notably slightly smaller battery and no bt button on pen. honestly thrilled with purchase.

I actually prefer a lighted keyboard, so that is a nice touch even if it costs in power consumption.

The short on this is, its slightly more powerful then the I5 version of the surface 4, less powerful then the i7. The stylus is only 256 pressure compared to the 1024 on the surface 4. Battery life about 5hr30min compared to the i5 surface 4 7hr with heavy use. The liquid cooling system keeps it quite and is a cool feature compared to air cooling. It comes with the accessories which is also a huge savings. The only real downside is the connectors are limited, no hdmi out, and only one usb 3.0 and one usb C.

If I was looking for a good deal, I would probably check this out.

Well because of having the USB Type C Port, you can easily get a Type C Port with HDMI and probably some USB 3.0 ports at cheap price. At $10 you can get Type->HDMI connector from Dell and a Dock with 4 USB Ports and HDMI out can be purchased around $25.

Yes, but I rather have the connection so I dont have to carry around a Hub to support other items you might want to connect at the same time.

If you are looking for too many ports then you should go with a 360 degree Convertible rather than a thin 12" detachable tablets. There has to be a balance between design and accessibility. If you want the tablet to be thin then you can't expect it to have all the ports present in a normal Laptop. And that is the advantage of having a Type-C port which can be used for various purpose with a converter, USB Hub, Display out, docking connector everything. What is the point of having USB Type-C and then all the other ports in a thin tablet?

Clearly you missed the point. The answer is to be able to plug in multiple items at the same time. Or did you not read the part about the hub that you responded to?

I did not miss any point. What I am trying to say that if you want multiple items in a computer with native ports support, then a thin and light detachable laptop will not satisfy that because they simply lacks it. But that cannot be put as an disadvantage because those are never build for providing high number of ports to user.
And I said, thankfully this Acer model provided an USB Type-C Port which can be used for various purpose, for display output, USB hub or as docking connector.

USB-c is an important upgrade from HDMI, buy a USB-c to HDMI cable, your problem solved.

better yet, buy a hi-def monitor and use USB-c to displayport cable, you will find it so much better than standard 1080p screen.
