I would say no simply because it doesn't have speakers.

without a console specific headset, getting audio from a console would have to be done via optical cable. You can buy a device that turns optical (toslink) signal into a standard 8mm or RCA jack, and then hook speakers up to that... But after all that, you could just spend a little more and buy a monitor with speakers...

This is $110 on newegg. Isn't dealing with newegg for returns worth $10?

yes because consoles can only do a paltry 1080p, well just barely anyway

True, but TVs in this size and price range tend to be crappy for console gaming. Monitors tend to have less input lag and better response time than low-end TVs...

this Asus Monitor in looks like a good console monitor to me... I'm sure the speakers aren't the best, but I bet they're better than no speakers... $23 more, but nice looking.

Credit to TDMVP73 for that monitor... tried to link his thread, but I'm on the slickdeals app which means nothing simple like copying a deal URL can be done...
He has more monitors in his thread BTW. Wish I could just link it...

I personally would opt for speakers separate from a monitor, for better quality

Yes, you most certainly could get better quality with separate speakers. You would need something that take toslink inputs though, as there isn't another output option on PS4 or X1 other than optical or through HDMI.

I assumed anyone looking to use this as a console gaming monitor was looking for cheap and compact. Adding the hardware required to convert toslink to analog, or getting a set of speakers with optical inputs would neither be cheap nor compact.
