Basic security system that calls/texts me, plus security camera setup question
The house is pre-wired with a security system (the main boxes say DSC, which from what I've read are used by the big companies like ADT etc). It seems to be in working condition, as the lights change on the panels when doors are opened or someone moves in front of a motion detector. Several people online said it could still be used w/o using a security company (sort of a DIY), but I didn't really understand how that worked. I did see a post about AlarmRelay, which looks like they can use your preinstalled system for just 8.95/mo, but it sounds like I'd have to have an active landline? Which would then add another extra monthly cost, so in total probably wouldn't be any cheaper than Simplisafe (not counting the equipment of course). Any ideas what I could do with a preinstalled system like this?
Lastly, I got a security camera setup on Amazon, but would like help to install the cameras/Ethernet cables. Would a security company do this? (since I'm not wanting their monitoring or buying anything from them) Or should I just see if I can find a handy man willing to do it? The latter is all I really need I think since it's supposed to be pretty much a DIY job?
Thanks for any help!
