Thread Details

Not a deal, but wanted to alert everyone of possible lost money.

I got this note from Chase today:
  • Beginning September 1, the Amazon.com redemption value for $1 is changing from 100 points to 125 points.
  • Your points will no longer be deducted when your purchase ships; they will be debited at the time your order is placed.
These changes do not impact your other Chase Ultimate Rewards redemption options including cash back, gift cards, travel and more.

So basically, don't shop with points on Amazon with this card starting September 1 because you'll be losing money. Redeem your points for cash or statement credit (which are staying as 100 points = $1) to get the full value of your points.

Ya, I got that too. WTF Chase. Is anybody stupid enough to not get cash back instead and actually use their points at Amazon? I'm guessing yes! Although that said I use my UR points for other stuff anyways Big Grin

Citi has been doing that type of garbage for a long time. I guess Chase has joined them.

That said, I do not understand why people use points to pay online merchants. Just take the statement credit at 100 points per $1.

Yes. My mom uses all of her points from various credit cards for movie tickets, which she refers to as "free" tickets. The fact that she is paying considerably more for those tickets than if she had taken a statement credit and then bought the tickets at a discount eludes her.

I can't believe they are doing this and really hope it doesn't mean that a point will no longer be a point like so many of those other bullshit cards. Amazon is always a %back retailer using some type of payment so it's best not to use points to pay anyway but this is still a very disappointing announcement!

Honestly I think it is dangerous accumulating points when they can pull crap like this at any time. Take the cash as soon as it's available it seems is best.
